A New Community Person Appears!

I’m sure they’ll get around to it after the game is back up.

Got it. Community Request: Nerf Vetruvian. :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. My role is… interesting… and ever changing!

So, today…

  • I oversee our Free to Play Team’s CS team.
  • I work with all of our Community Managers to help them best do their job. (This includes @ThanatosNoa)
  • I work on general strategy and planning. (When we announce things, supporting blogs, social media, events, etc.)
  • I work with the community team to make sure that our dev teams are getting the community feedback they need to best prioritize development.
  • I help the Community Team to come up with new and exciting events to run in our games.
  • In general I do everything that you would expect a Community Manager to do, and then more.

I should note that Community Management is kind of hard to explain. The role in itself is part CS, part PR, part Marketing, and part Production. We’re kind of like a translator, filter, and occasional prophet. We work to act as the voice of the company to our customers, but we also act as the player’s voice inside of the company. We work to ensure morale is high on both sides, internally (the office/studio), and externally (the customer). If that sounds impossible, well, at times it can feel like it.

A good CM is intimately involved with the development team and the player base. We know what the company wants to do next, and can help advise on what the reaction is going to be.

To sum it up in the way that I tell my wife’s quilting friends, I get to talk to people about video games all day. There’s a ton more to it than just that, but that’s what I do if you boil it all down to the essence of the job.

  1. Change as little as possible. This is a scary time for this community. Why? Because things are changing, and change is scary! As time moves on and we get to know you all better, we can start slowly introducing more changes. For now, my only plan is to reassure you all that we’re not planning on totally changing the Duelyst you know and love, prove that point to you through action, and then work with you to grow Duelyst into an even more amazing experience than it is today.

  2. Points of focus:

  • Get to know the community.
  • Gain the trust of the community.
  • Ensure the community has access to stellar customer support when they need it.
  • Work to build and improve the Duelyst Community when and where I can.
  • Nerf Vetruvian :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve been in the video games industry acting as a Community Manager since 2009. You are all the lifeblood of this game, which I really do enjoy playing. Your community team is here to listen to your feedback, pass that feedback along, and occasionally engage in some lighthearted teasing of random Vetruvian players. Our goal is in many ways the same goal as yours, to enjoy the time we have with each other playing and talking about Duelyst as much as possible.

I hope that helps,

Stormshade

Is it sad that I found this to be one of the most interesting things about this post? And that I totally want to know more about that and see some example work?

Found the Meme thread, eh? LOL

Google images actually, but yes.

We’ve been running little in-office tournaments at BNEA for fun and to help encourage people to learn the game more. With each tournament, I send out a different meme. I’ve never used that one, but it’s one of my personal favorites.

Cheers,

Stormshade

Good to hear.

Tournies. Budget tournies, core tournies, expansion tournies, basic card tournies, meme tournies, serious tournies. All the tournies.

All the tournies.

All good aims (I’d say vet would need one, but other factions will still be posing bigger problems). Questions of interest, and to help in your endeavors:

  1. How much of the community do you know as of now? Forums? Discord? In-game (harder to assess)?
  2. Do you have an inkling where the community stands as of right now with the news of BNEA coming in?
  3. Do you know the history that the community has developed over time with Duelyst/CPG? The high points, and more often vocalized low points? The sentiments of player’s in various factions? (there’s often a running theme among each faction’s players)
  4. Have you or BNEA check out the suggested quality of life changes some players here would like to see? (@mmf for link, @isbee too for the FAQ, assuming that’s coming along )
  5. Do you know of the meme cards? Do you know about Makantor’s psuedo-name? Do you know where Serpenti stands?
  6. How important do you think you’ll find it to be an at least somewhat regular participant to discord and/or the forums?

These are all questions that I sincerely ask to you, not specifically for my need to know, but to help you navigate through the community side of things as an aim to assist in developing a well founded relationship. (with that, anything where you don’t feel that you have enough knowledge answer, spend some time asking around learning).

Again, questions of interest, and to help in your endeavors.

Enjoy your journey.

Well, it is…slowly…but if they have a dedicated team to pump one out…I’m not going to be offended.

I was just trying to do a service to the community.

It’s locked as of the moment, but there are still some great suggestions in there if any devs want to take a look at it.

@nwardezir has a more complete collection of possible fixes/improvements here if you want to check it out (I highly suggest it!)

Ok sounds good. Lately the topic about people being offensive popped up again.

They request a friendship after a match, then spout aggressive offensive lines and then immediately remove themselves as friend again.

Maybe you could do something with that, seeing as how you want to gain our trust.

Earlier ideas were that you could then block them from ever requesting friendship again and to be able to report them with an easy button.

Hey, it’s always great to see a new forum moderator come along . I hope you enjoy your time with Duelyst! Just a few quick questions:

  • What’s your favorite and least favorite factions?
  • What’s your favorite archetype to play?
  • How did you learn of Duelyst, and what excites you the most about this game?

Now that Ryvirath won’t be doing much forum stuff now, will you or @ThanatosNoa become the Geoff a Kaplan of Duelyst?

I’ve been lurking on the forums a fair bit for awhile now, and even in Discord and on Reddit. You guys are fun. In-game, it’s much harder to assess due to the lack of in-game communication tools. I might be pushing to have that changed a little… We’ll talk more about that in the future.

Exactly where it should be! There’s a mix of fear, anger, and excitement. That said, I’m pleased to see that there seems to be much more excitement than anything else. @ThanatosNoa and I are watching things carefully right now and doing our best to assuage concerns as they come up.

Some of it, yes. But it’s honestly impossible for me to have learned the entire history of the community. That’s what @ThanatosNoa is for. He knows it, and can help me navigate the waters while I get to know you all. That said, I know every faction has players that have strong positive and negative feelings towards their current state. I know Vet players are a little more sensitive due to some rough spots in their factions history, and I know Magmar players felt pretty weak before this expansion.

A lot of things are changing right now due to the new expansion, so this is really an ideal time for me to come in. This is because in many ways, I’m coming in at the start of a fresh meta.

@ThanatosNoa has shared a great deal of that information with us already. He’s been keeping a list for you guys.

Not yet, but these sounds exciting!

Right now, it’s very important. Over time, it will become slightly less important. Again, @ThanatosNoa is going to be staying your goto CM. I’m more like his backup.

Please don’t stop what you’re doing on my account. One of my favorite things is empowering players like yourself to make an impact on the community. It is, after all, your community.

I promise you’ll think of things differently than we do, and the information you’re working on providing will likely be incredibly helpful! Please continue, and let @ThanatosNoa or myself know if you need a little help. That’s what we’re here for.

Thanks! I’ll make sure to check those out!

This is an interesting problem, that might be a little difficult to tackle right now. Let me check into what systems are in place at the moment to help police this kind of thing, and then I’ll come back around to it.

Fav: Abyssian Least: Songhai

Archetype: I have a deck called “Little Hugs”. It spams lots of wraithlings which like to give little hugs! Sadly, people keep killing them, which angers my Shadow Dancers… :frowning:

One of our producers, Cory (a.k.a. Captain Frog, see the stream yesterday), started playing at the office. Soon after, the rest of us around him started playing as well. I love the art style, the mixture of CCG and Tactics style game play, and the community that is built up around the game. I also love the fact that the dev team is simply brilliant, and that the community which is already in place is so awesome and passionate.

See above for the answer to your spoiler.

Cheers,

Stormshade

Excuse me what.

Midrange Vaath was tier one, and still is with only the addition of Terradon. Decimus-Spikes was one of the strongest deck of the last expansion, and I would not be surprised if it still is. Most lizard-people actually think the faction is overtuned as of now, and could use a nerf. I have no idea where you got your information, but it is beyond incorrect.

Shhh… don’t tell him!
I think UP was nerf enough to be honest.

No worries!

Again, I’m new to the community, and might make some mistakes here and there while I’m still catching up. Please forgive me.

I sadly don’t have the time to reach Gold every Season, much as I wish I did.

Thanks,
