Farewell Duelyst

Farewell.

I have just learnt about the news. Feels awful.
All I can think of is the amount of time spent playing this game, hanging with its beautiful community, and how incredibly amazing and unique Duelyst is.

I know nothing about servers or how games’ brands and intellectual properties work, but this game really shouldn’t cease to exist. It just doesn’t make sense.

There’s a whole set of beautifully unique mechanics, aesthetic, lore, characters, which cannot be thrown to waste.

Create some new Kickstart, found raise, whatever it takes, I’m ready to throw in some money, just don’t kill Duelyst.

Please.

@ThanatosNoa What happens with the forums afterwards?

That’s an excellent question that I’m not sure how to answer, but I think they’re getting purged.

The accounts we’re using to talk are BNEA property (which can be used for other BNEA games) but the forums are CPG’s iirc - we couldn’t untangle the two before so I can’t imagine this staying up afterwards :magsad:

Losing the forums would be hard…

But if the forums are yours, why can’t you let them stay?

And who wrote the farewell message? Stormshade?

To be incredibly blunt - it’s part of the ‘letting go of Duelyst’ package.

Since the partnership with BNEA will cease, and we have 0 control over the forums (they’re not our accounts, they’re BNEA) there’s no “good” reason for CPG to have any reasonable upkeep over a forum for a game that doesn’t exist - with accounts it can’t use - for a publisher they’re not working with.

The Farewell copy was written by BNEA, since all messaging responsibilities are handled by the publisher. (This was true while I was working with BNEA, is still true now, and why you guys stopped seeing me for a while after my contract concluded).

I posted it here because, well, you guys are like family and this is my last chance to talk with you guys on here on official news. So even without a moderator or dev role, I’m here

You are a blessing, I hope you know that.

Today? This year? Next year? No sir.

After speaking with Juvey it seems like our only play is

  • Continue working on Godfall (that has been our job for the past few years, after all)
  • Support + Grow the company
  • Rally behind the Counterplay GAMES banner, we did say we wanted that S to mean something

Once the dust settles from Godfall, we can sit in a room and have a long talk about the future of the Dooly IP. Since we maintain the rights to the IP, anything is possible (assets are there, lore exists, etc) but we don’t want to instill false hope.

It is of my personal opinion that the game would need an overhaul, a revamp, a Dooly 2.0 for us to present the idea for creation to refresh the brand; Dooly warmed our hearts, but it had too much locked potential and did not impress people the way we hoped.

i know that the game going to close its gates but closing the forums will be back breaking.
in some sense this is where the dooly family is at.

well i hope will be reunited under dooly 2.0, whatever i don’t know.

p/s if you open dooly 2 we’ll have to work on our collection again NOOOOO

The things that aren’t in the forum are still in our heart. If we want to keep it the way we want it we have to join elsewhere. :candle: :magsad:

Can we play offline after the shut down? Like sandbox and practice games?

Doom™ has finally been cast :magsad:

We had something precious here, guys. Let’s keep it in our memories, and in our future conversations wherever we shall meet again :sirpenti:

Just saying we can dispel ourselves
