Farewell Duelyst

My most played CCG is finally closed it’s doors T_T
As a gamedev myself I understand though. To think that it’s still open it’s server until now is a feat.
Thank you CPG, hopefully you can revive this IP again in the future (with all it’s gorgeus pixel art)!

I will really miss this game, all the memes, the comments, the contests, the faction ideas, the re-colors, the tourneys, even the rage quits, and maybe even wander rag not really :man_shrugging:t5:. This game was the one game I played hella hard. If there was a way to even make a clone I’d be down. Thank you all for you banter, and thank you mods for your time. Much Love

Actually this is predictabe for a long time, but it still seems too quick for me. I can’t accept this.

The news of Duelyst closing its doors and shutting down its servers struck me like a bullet through the heart. I am very truly saddened by this news.

I started Duelyst back when the game first appeared on Steam long ago. Instantly, I was taken into the game through its superior art, through its superior gameplay, through its superior community, and its superior music. Duelyst is the first CCG I have played and will still be remembered to be as such. I have sunk many hours and dollars into the game and no other game came close to the amount of both I have put into the game. I have many matches with many of you and have many fond (and maybe not so fond) memories about the game. I also have spend countless hours just listening to the music and looking at the animations of the awesome spritework (I a sucker for such things). Ever since I started playing, I think I have not missed a season. Maybe that trend will continue until the very end? Who knows, but this game and I have a long history.

What happens from here for me after the game closes? I have other hobbies and CCGs that I can play and will occupy my time, but none shall fill the hole that Duelyst have left in my heart. Not Shadowverse, not even Magic the Gathering; the concepts, the gameplay, and the mechanics are that unique and I enjoyed them thoroughly. And of course, the community here is irreplaceable. I shall continue to listen to its music and look at its art long after the servers shutdown. I’ll even keep the program installed on my computers, even though I will not be able to play the game after the end of February.

In case you don’t hear from me again after this letter, it has been an awesome pleasure to experience this game with you all in this community over the years. Should the game be brought back online or should a sequel be released for this game, please tell me, and I’ll be leaping back into action.

Farewell, may we meet again.

I feel like I desperately need a hug, and I haven’t even played Duelyst in over 2 years.

Yes, I hated many of the changes introduced to the game over the years - but it was still one of the best game and social experiences I’ve ever had. The game, at its best, was perfect - the ideal turn-based strategy game and the ideal card game with brilliant aesthetics and a fantastic pace.

But the community was what kept me in - everything from having ridiculously detailed discussions about particular mechanics to memes to testing one another’s decks to memes to watching tourneys together to memes. It was the only time I felt like this, and the only time I felt I genuinely wanted to invest my time, energy and feels in a community build around a game.

Take care, guys (especially if there’s anyone here who still remembers me). And if anyone wants to recommend another game I could jump straight in, go ahead, that’d be much appreciated.

Not letting go of the IP kinda kills my little dreams of getting hands on the source code, but hey, happens. Sad ending to a beautiful, yet unstable gem.

The king is dead, long live the king, i guess.

I’m kinda crushed, not gonna lie. I always had the hopes of coming back to a continuously updated duelylst, but I guess thats no longer going to happen. I know most of you are way more sad than I am to see this happen, and I wish you guys the best.

So sad, this game is a classic.

Too bad I won’t be able to revisit ever.

Like the classic game of Chess, I was hoping to come back to this game for the rest off my life, regardless of player base.

Farewell my old friend, you will be missed.

Bye, the only playable card game in the market except Mythgard and Collective.

I promised I would stick with this game all the way to its last day. Now, there’s a somber, yet oddly relieving, feeling because I’m sad to see it go, but glad I can stay true to my word.

I’m going to miss this game and I’m sure you all feel the same. In this tightly-knit community, you make me feel like so much more than someone who plays the game. When communities are small, every person in it stands out more. It’s going to be quite the transition moving to a game with a larger player base where I will likely just blend in and be another average joe.

But despite everything that’s happening now, I’m glad I could share my time in Duelyst with you. The game may leave, but it leaves behind a timeless legacy, memories and bonds that certainly won’t leave with the game.

And hey, we can still keep our community intact. It may not be in the world of Duelyst, but we can find new passions to share.

While it may be time to end the chapter of Duelyst, I want to say thank you for bringing me not only a wonderful game, but also wonderful people to share these experiences. Now only one question remains: what will the next chapter hold? :grinning:

Dammit, and I’ve just started playing again.

I knew that Duelyst servers won’t be open forever without new updates. But I just can’t believe it finally happened.

Maybe a bit too personal, but I was never sad in my life when a person close to me died. I just couldn’t grasp the concept of living without them. Months passed, only then I realized. I’m not sad now. Guess, the same would happen here. At some moment in future I’ll just think: “Hey, I would love to play some Dooli now!” But I just will not be able to. Never anymore. And then I’ll realize what happened now.

All these games, discussions, online friends, fight over my ban, all these unimplemented ideas of mine… I don’t know what I feel.

But onto the positive note. @ThanatosNoa, I really like what you, guys, did here! Firstly, warning us in advance  Secondly, refunds. And discounts. That’s really nice of you.

I doubt I will play your next game, MMO Actions are just not my style, but I will definitely observe your future somewhere from the shadows and suddenly pop up if you make something turn based again  Duelyst was wonderful, even with all its flaws, but what is flawless in our life? You’ve definitely done a great job here as game developers.

I don’t know what else to say.

Sincerely yours,

Stormshade  Alplod.

P. S. When will forums be closed?

P.P.S. OPEN SOURCE WEN?

Just expressing my sadness here. Been a long-time player, forum lurker, and meme enthusiast. 200+ decks - mostly janky trash haha, 1400+ steam hours; definitely one of my favourite games of all time.

Thanks to the community for keeping this gorgeous game alive for as long as it could, and thankyou Counterplay for making it. Keeping my eye on Godfall and anything that comes in the near-future. I only graciously hope that Counterplay can find enough success to turn their gaze back to Duelyst one day, be it a sequel or reboot or whatever…

Thank you again everybody. A sad day, but nothing lasts forever. Onwards and upwards!

This is sad.

I never liked CPG, they always were doing some stupid shit and making bad decisions. Partnering with Bandai was one of those things and now I also hate Bandai. I’m not interested in Godfall, even if it has same lore as Duelyst, and honestly I’m this close to wishing it to fail hard.

And Duelyst… It always had something toxic, always tried to put some frustration in your face.

Still, despite all that, I had fun. Even though I missed all the glory days staying away from the community, playing very little and at lowest ranks, even though I started really playing relatively recently, I still had fun.

And despite all the toxic shit in it this game had, has a great community. Really, it’s common to have a toxic community around a good game, but how often can you see the reverse? All the friendly, helpful, talkative, funny and inventive players made it so much better.

I want to say thank you to all the good folks who were and are here. I want to say thank you to those who are sticking till the end.

Maybe it will take me months to realize Duelyst is no more and that I’m missing it. Maybe the community will save it. Maybe we will meet again somewhere else. Anyway, I’m not saying goodbye. Servers are still running, there’s still this forum, Reddit and numerous Discord servers, multiple people are thinking about the way to save the game and I’m sure there will be something.
