Duelyst Forums

What about the Bandai Namco partnership?

I had a big long answer in this thread but this was my last chain of thought and it works the best

Maybe Duelyst is as big as it will ever be and Bandai/CPG are fine with current population and state of the game. For some reason people seem to think that the game is Subway or McDonalds. It never occurs that Duelyst is that big local restaurant that never leaves its location to go nationwide. People keep expecting this explosion that will turn it into hearthstone and this game isnt that.

Hey, there is a full scale of gray between “being like Hearthstone” and “playing multiple times against the same opponent”. I think most of the people here don’t care about Duelyst being as big as Hearthstone, yet they want to be sure the player base is healthy and the future of the game is shiny.

@terrarius: I think @alplod can provide full details about that point, if he’s willing to

Well said. Would be nice however, so my friends won’t call me a nerd for drawing an obscured anime robo grill

For me, i don’t expect duelyst to be a giant game like HS, but the game sometimes seems a little bit forgotten in comparison with other games.

Hope Bandai help duelyst with better advertising and other projects that CPG have for the game.

The expansions really help Duelyst  but i’m afraid the game can’t stay in the market or be an exception for the competition.

Problem with Steamcharts is that it doesn’t take account of players who don’t use steam to play, like myself. So you only see part of the player base with it. A comparison would be places like Forums, Discord and Reddit. You only see part of the player base appear in those places, the majority of players wouldn’t be seen in any of those places, while a minority of people would be there and represented.

…No. No it does not. Banco Namdai needs to be sinking serious energy into letting the internet know Duelyst is a thing. Youtube ads or something, I don’t really care, but they need to get fresh blood pumping in somehow, because…

@kirabi

Stagnation is death. The playerbase not growing is the prelude to it shrinking. A steady stream of new players coming in is neccessary to prevent the game from eventually being destroyed by entropic decay.

Edit: Spelling.

You’re right, its not like faeria that has his most playerbase linked to steam, but we can have a short image of how many players use a community like Steam (pretty big) to play the game, and is falling behind some other games (faeria is not the exception, but they manage to stay put in someways as it seems).

Also:

But yeah we don’t have a real data about the active player base.

Yeah, cool. We cannot get the complete evidence, because CPG is not disclosing numbers, but all these bits of partial evidence clearly show that the game is not growing as much as it would be desirable - one may argue that the player base has actually been shrinking in the last months.

It is true that many players here don’t use Steam to play, hence the numbers of Eternal and ESL on Steam might be biased. However, it seems to me that these games are both being pushed more than Duelyst in terms of advertising and they have a mobile client, whose numbers are not shown on Steam either.

I was expecting BN to really take care of all these important points, but this is not (perceived as) happening…

Agreed that that was what I hoped (as opposed to expected).

Unfortunately, it has turned out as I expected.

Truth!

I have been summoned!

Correct!

But let’s dig into this a little bit, since I have been summoned.

We’ll take a quick look at some of what we’ve been doing, and hint at some other things coming down the pipeline…

  1. German Translation: This is Duelyst’s first localization, and sadly is still not complete. We’re hoping to finish this sometime soon, and when done, there should be a sizable push to let those in German speaking countries realize that they can play Duelyst in their native language.

  2. What does Stormshade do?
My primary focus for Duelyst is to work behind the scenes. As others have mentioned, @ThanatosNoa is the primary CM for Duelyst. I think he takes pretty good care of you all, and he passes along daily and weekly reports to keep the team up to date on how you all are doing. My focus is less on being seen, and more on working on some behind the scenes work. BTS work takes a little while to be seen. I’ve been focusing primarily on finding a way to help out the competitive scene a little bit. I’m hoping to have good news on that front soon, but that’s all I can say right now. Which, I realize, is not what you want to hear. Aside from that, I also am a bit of a shared resource, which means I’m also working on a bunch of stuff I can’t tell you about.

  3. Ok, fine. What else is BNEA working on for Duelyst? What will we be hearing out soon?
Lots of stuff! More platforms are on the way, and while I know everyone is chomping at the bit for news of the mobile version, I’m afraid I don’t have any news I can share in regards to that. What I can tell you is that new expansion is coming up very soon (You should have already started to see the first signs of a new spoiler season approaching). We’ve already re-launched the Artificer Academy, our streamer rewards program, which I think is improved over the old program. We’re very close to announcing a new initiative loosely related to that as well. We expanded the Frostfire Festival to include more skins, a new game mode, and some free giveaways (I know there’s some tension around that).

In addition to that, there’s more work going on behind the scene’s to do more for Duelyst that I can’t talk about right now.

I know all of you are wanting to hear more about what is coming as soon as possible, and want to see more happening for Duelyst, and we’re doing our best to meet those expectations. However, there are also reasons things seem to move slowly. Please trust that we’re all doing our best to improve Duelyst as swiftly as we can, but the business side of things can appear to move slowly at times. Please understand that this doesn’t mean nothing is happening, we’re all working quite hard to bring new and exciting improvements to Duelyst and its community…

Cheers,

Stormshade

You should make this into a separate thread, its worth it and I’m sure others would like to know this information but don’t read this thread.

Thanks for this reply! Though it doesn’t add much, it’s much appreciated from my side

Maaan, I feel like we should summon a dev of this caliber at least once per week. Maybe not always the same person to not tire them out, but I really like posts like this. We should do this more often and organized.

If they did it every month even it wouldn’t feel as impactful, especially if it’s expected.

In Soviet Russia, if you want to play Duelyst, you have to have a cross-temporal internet connection that reaches a quarter-century into the future.

Edit: Wow, it took all of fifteen seconds for this to get a like. That’s my ego boost for the day right there.
