Trials of Mythron: Notion of Starless Eternity

Probably the second best named card next to hatefurnace.

Edit: OP added what I put about Ascension.

Its certainly an achievable Trial but I don’t know how I feel about the Destiny part.

So this is the first card this set who’s wording legitimately upsets me tbh, cool affect, fun to play, utterly amateur hour implementation.

Pawn reaches other side of board

Tier 1: knight
Tier 2: queen
Tier 3: table flip

so lets say that sajj reaches the end of the board with one artifact. Can you equip 2 more artifacts, then notion and get tier 3. Or are you stuck at tier 1 because thats what you reached the end with.

And if you reach the end of the board, then lose your only artifact before summoning notion, do you get nothing?

You know, I kinda like this card. With a combination of Iris Barrier and Obdurator, it will be very difficult for the opponent to get rid of your artifacts, and cards like Incinera and Silhouette tracer can make it easier for you to reach the other side. I’m confused about two things though:

  • Do you need to have 3 artifacts equipped before you play this card to receive tier 3 ascension, or can turn you achieve tier 2/3 ascension at any time after you play Notion of Starless Eternity when you equip 2/3 total artifacts?
  • Are the keywords attached to the general or the artifact themselves (can you lose tiers after an artifact breaks? )

Just to clarify.

  • This effect doesn’t care about rows, your General just needs to be on the opposite side of the board (literally the last column, opposite of the one you started on).
  • It doesn’t care when you had the artifact, just that you have one when you’re on the edge. (So you can walk, fly or teleport in with or without an artifact, but you need one on you while standing on the edge to finish the trial).
  • You can equip an artifact while on the edge to satisfy this trial.
  • Tiers of Ascension are dynamic. Just like you can ascend by equipping more artifacts, you can descend by losing artifacts.

The levels keep updating constantly based on how much artifacts you have.

Only while on the edge or even if you move away from it? Based on my understanding, it should be the latter.

Anyway, this is one of the funniest and best designed card in the expansion. I like it a lot!

Well then…

Strong against nonprovoke tempo
weak To ping and stun

The Trial is the only part that requires you to be by the edge.

The Destiny only cares about how many artifacts you have equipped to give you tiers of ascension. (You’re free to fly out of that edge after you complete the trial)

So basically, RIP time maelstrom.

wait, if you time maelstrom after 2 attacks, do you get 2 more attacks?

I will be blunt here: this card is terrible.

A five mana 3/3 is bad enough by itself, the effect is flavorful but ultimately either useless (if you have less than 3 artifacts on) or outright overkill (when you have 3 artifacts on since you can kill anybody with Tears + Maelstrom anyway, no need for x4 damage).

Granted this does have the easiest trial to fulfill with a specially built deck, but that is ultimately outshaded by the horrible destiny effect.

Edit: I also forgot to mention the fact that artifacts are ridiculously easy to remove which doesn’t help this card a bit.

Horrible? Getting Frenzy with Sajj already sounds sick to me!

It’s not a game-ending effect like the other trials, but as you correctly note you can easily achieve the Trial even with a standard deck. I prefer it over the shiny effects of the other factions, much better designed and still useful

Frenzy is p average and easy to play around. Flying is nuts tho. This might make gifts playable purely for getting all 3 ascensions at once.
