LyonArcanists? In IV? (In)Conceivable!

LyonArcanists? In IV? (In)Conceivable!

Has anyone been trying LyonArcanists? I haven’t, but I’ve been theorycrafting this little number:

Lyonar isn’t really known as an Arcanyst Faction but it does have access to some pretty nifty cheap spells and Divine Bond. I was put onto this notion by @yerboijosh and @owlbeastmd in a brief exchange and have been quietly brooding on if it could work, as the meta stabilizes. And to be fair, it seems like it could be pretty good! Most picks should be fairly intuitive. Magnetize is there to pull in a beater for your Bond combo finisher or just take out some snowballing backline threat. Aerial Rift is a cheap cantrip trigger but potentially useful for a deck like this. Tempest for Wraithling crowd control and Immolation because it’s Immolation. Mentor, Conjurer and Trinity Wing take care of your hand and Pureblade Enforcer is an experimental pick that would probably end up being replaced for lack of power. My thinking is that in a deck that often requires hard spell removal to deal with bulky minions it might make sense to capitalize off that: ie as they’re dealing with Owlbeasts and Illusions the Enforcer gets to trade up.

Has anyone actually been trying any kind of Arcanyst Lyonar deck? I’d love to hear about it because even though I think Owlbeast is too strong and Conjurer should have its spawn pool reduced I’ve always liked Arcanysts in principle.

Tried something like that after expansion launch (on my painful grinding for Brome) and it didn’t work nicely.

Got Dioltas/Ironcliffe instead of Enforcer/BBMentor, some Lightbenders too, but more or less, it was the same Aegis/Magnetize/DB/HI spell package (maybe a couple Beam Shock/SunBloom).

Long story short : lot of spanking, Brome still not unlocked and gave up playing Argeon or Ziran which are boring as shit (to me)

(the first deck posted was just an idea that, once refined, looked more or less like your deck)

What about that 0 mana spell
The one that gives provoke
Seems like it would be great for this deck

Yeah, got it in another deck, it’s more gimmicky and not as good as Pavise, maybe on Arcanyst, dunno … hate myself having to play Lyonar :frowning:
Sample here : Immortal Vanguard - Deck Bazaar
(23 damage P2T2)

The problem with Arcanyst is that, most of the time in current -yet not set- meta, at 7mana, EMP will hit the board (or even less if Golem/Magmar/Abyssian)

My nemesis at it again.

I think you’re right but I’m going to try it in low Diamond, swapping Aerial Rifts for Beam Shocks (can’t believe I just said that).

I’ll make a friend request ingame so I can check your playback history if you don’t mind
(same ID ?)

(and see if you’re spanked as bad as I’ve been)

I’m currently testing HealArcana Zir’an build. I tried to test new cards (like 0-mana provoke spell), but they proved to be mediocre at best. The list itself, though currently a work in progress, seems rather good.

I’ll probably post it after a bit of testing.

EDIT: Here it is! What do you think, @thematsjo? Currently 7/4 in low diamond.

Soft spots are: Aethermaster and Conjurer, so, basically half of arcanyst package.
Possible choices which i couldn’t fit: Scintilla, Lightbender.
Choices tested and proved bad: Illusionist, Trinity wing, DB.
Main problem: lack of unconditional draw.

You already found me. I think I tried 3-5 matches on ladder and won like one or two of them, really depressing losses too.

I used to really love ArcaHeal! Sterope to machine-gun out True Strikes felt great. I worry that the deck might be as clunky as mine, where you either run out of cards before doing much of anything or you start generating so much everything just overflows xD. I hope to hear how it’s doing

As I said, draw is a problem. What you really need to do is try to have a draw option in hand at all times.

Other than that the deck seems rather strong. Elixir is a must in current meta and sunseer is surprisingly effective.

Did you know you can true strike your own minions to get a heal proc afterwards? Tempest is also useful in this case.

Btw, I’m using manaforger in place of aethermaster now. Replacing true strikes is OK, but 3mana trinity or immo is much more powerful.

I have a problem of closing games sometimes, but insane amounts of heal allow being slow.

Currently 9 wins/7 losses/ 1 draw in diamond, but i clealry misplayed 2 or 3 matches, it could be better in the more professional hands

Oh, I love these decks! I have a couple laying around if you guys are interested.

Ziran Pewpew

I haven’t tested this deck very much, and when I did it was a few months ago, so might be able to be further refined. It went 2-0 in high Diamond. I imagine Magmar would poop on it right now but who knows!
It was super fun to play, I’ll be trying it again sometime for sure.

I recall Conjurer being the alternate wincon, and surprisingly potent in Ziran.

Argeon Combo

This deck, as opposed to my Ziran one, is highly tested, very refined, tried and true. I do like Beam Shock in this deck, but I don’t really want to swap anything for it.

I mostly play this deck in friendlies for fun but it’s about a 60-70% win rate on ladder in all ranks Gold-S over the past two or three seasons.

You could absolutely afford to put Beam Shock or the provoke spell in here if you wanted, draw is NOT a problem with cycles/Trinities.

Deck Code: [c-c-c-c-combo]MToxLDM6MTEsMzoxNywzOjIxLDM6MTAzMDIsMzoxMDMwNSwyOjExMDk3LDM6MTkwMzcsMjoyMDA0NiwzOjIwMDY0LDM6MjAwNjcsMzoyMDA2OCwyOjIwMTIwLDM6MjAxNjEsMzoyMDIzMg==

Nice stuff! Glad to see someone else has been having fun with arcanysts

One suggestion for argeon: I haven’t tested anywhere near as much as you, but I humbly suggest lightbender. It’s such a beast. wrecking walls, tiles, and eggs, developing a roar target, arcanyst synergy, all on top of smolifying all the beeg, scary vaaths on the more try-hard portions of ladder.

Yeah, I’d put Lightbender in any tempo deck and it’s been in past iterations of this one as well. This version specifically is just cut and dry ‘what does the combo need’.

But I’m sure it could be stuck in, the deck isn’t too hard to change around based on your playstyle and preferences

Steadfast Formation? I wanted to use it with arcanysts, but always replaced it. How and when do you use it?

Generally just a way to fire off a spell proc once I get arcanysts on board. Provoke on a fat owl is always nice, with other niche applications centered around pinning opponents in place to I can get a unit in position for bond or to protect a target without having to play to as conservatively around shroud, sandswirl, or bender.
