Hotfix Patch Notes - 1.95.10

Hey Duelyst fans

We're back with another hotfix, this time containing a bigger list of reported items.

Card Updates

Duelyst Hatefurnace

  • The Trial was updated to “Give 7 minions on the battlefield +Attack by casting a spell.”

Hatefurnace had some weird and fun interactions that we knew about and many more that we had not anticipated. We wanted to do two things to nudge it in the right direction while preserving the best parts of what the community loves (and hatefurnaces!) about the card.

First, Hatefurnace’s Trial is slightly tweaked;  ANY spell that gives +Attack for any reason will progress the Trial, meaning cards like Redsteel Minos and Thraex will still work since you did cast a spell, and a minion did gain +Attack!  However, the minion now has to be on the battlefield for the Trial to progress, so things like Lady Locke + Ragnora’s BBS (among others) will no longer progress it.

Second, since this adds a pool of new cards for players to consider (such as Vindicator/Rancour with Tectonic Spikes) we'll adjust the amount of +Attack buffs to from 5 to 7. We like that our players have a variety of choices, but these Trials should still be a little bit harder to achieve.

Duelyst Meditate

  • Meditate will no longer shuffle copies of itself into your deck

  • There is a hard cap on playing cards if you’ve played 10 without dealing damage this turn

Meditate opens up a lot of crazy deck building options, and we’ve really enjoyed seeing what players have cooked up. There is a specific case where players have been playing Meditates into Meditates, forcing their opponent to lose the entire length of their turn watching Meditate animations. While we admire this creativity, this doesn’t work in a digital environment. We changed Storm Kage for this reason (way back in the day), and have done two things to prevent this from happening now.

First, Meditate will no longer create more Meditates, removing the infinite Mediate case entirely.

Second, you won’t be able to play more than 10 cards in a turn if you aren’t dealing any damage. This rule won’t likely come up at all in regular play, especially with the Meditate change, however, it will add a small stop to completely time-burning infinites like this in the future.

Due to these changes, for approximately a week after this patch, you can disenchant Meditate for full spirit value.

Other Fixes/Updated

  • Metalmeld - Fixed to better detect which artifacts have been destroyed.
  • Monolithic Vision - Fixed an issue where the mana cost reduction could stack.
  • Pandatentiary - Fixed an issue which caused the client to crash when played.
  • Prongbok - Fixed an issue where Prongbok would overwrite other movement-related effects (such as Flying or Ki Beholder's root)
  • Unleash the Evil - Fixed an issue where the Rush/Flying Keywords were added as part of the base to a minion.
(In other words, minions revived that were summoned by Unleash the Evil will no longer revive with Rush/Flying)
  • Third Generation Generals - The third generation of Generals can now be unlocked by winning 10 matches in any multiplayer queue.
(In other words, you can now unlock Generals by playing Unranked and Gauntlet)
  • Create Deck Filter - The deck filter will stay on All Cards or Standard Cards during your instance of deckbuilding.
(However, this will reset once you leave your collection screen).
  • Crafting Screen - Fixed an issue where cards would be locked during deckbuilding, disabling the ability to craft or disenchant cards.

Thanks once again for your love and patience!

Oops, sorry, @ThanatosNoa, I somehow missed this one

@ThanatosNoa, sorry for opening a second thread, but for some reason this one slipped under my radar.

Can you better explain the 10 cards rule? Does it mean that you can play at most 10 cards which don’t deal any damage per turn, but any number of cards dealing damage?

If I recall correctly (I didn’t test this myself) - just interact with your opponent in some manner, such as Bloodrage Mask dealing damage, to circumvent the 10 card limit.

About meditate.

Does it create a copy of previous spell if cast after another meditate or nothing?

Damn formal guys! Every time we get something new we immediately go to the weird cases

:sob: Why do you guys ask me instead of playing the game and finding out the results.
We want you guys to play the game!

Meditate does what the card says (won’t fizzle unless you’ve never played a spell but Meditate before).

That is called freedom :joy:

We are all against “discoverable”, it can cost games. But we do appreciate a lot your quick and accurate replies, if this makes you feel better

I don’t think I said this last hotfix, but I’ll certainly say it now. I’m really happy to see Duelyst getting hotfixes, considering the number of small bugs we’ve seen go unanswered from time to time. It’s awesome seeing the game get fast and effective treatment when things get dirty.

Pass it along that this fickle guy is impressed and giving positive feedback.

You say that this “opens up options,” in regards to the Hatefurnace change (or lack of change).

However, isn’t this just forcing us to use Thraex and Red Minos, and other cards that are more reliable/faster than just buff spells themselves? It’s only an illusion of more choice, when in reality we are forced to use very specific cards in order to have a viable deck.

@buddybluebomber - this is rather a matter of personal opinion.

You may find it as a restriction of choice since now you are “required” to play cards such as Threax or Minos.

Others find the options of Bloodsurge or Attack Buff spells (interweaving the two to create the most optimal combination) as a freedom of choice.

In all accounts, it also breathes new life into cards that otherwise saw almost no play (when was the last time anyone brought a Vindicator or Visionar with them?). That type of opportunity was something we were actually really happy to see, and would like that to continue to blossom since it indirectly buffs cards without changing their actual values.
(Did you unpack a Minos? Keep it around just in case some day you want to make a Furnace deck).

so sarugi hiogi infinite combo is nerfed so you are limited to 2 meditates and 8 saberspine seals per turn :thonk:

So…
I have 7 minions on the field. I place Thraex and use my Bloodbound spell.

Trial completed?

Wording is bad, but you need to cast 7 unique spells who’s result end up buffing the attack of minions.

So Threax + Vindicator + Starhorn BBS may buff 32 units, but it only counts as one proc.
