Duelyst Forums

Hi, a new player here

Hello, as the title of thread says I’m a complete noob (Had a couple of wins, a couple of losses). I downloaded the game the past Tuesday and I really LOVED it. Is everything I could wish as a child:

  • A card game (I was a fan of the YuGiOh anime).
  • A tactical board with minions and generals (I loved these kind of games in the DS [Fire Emblem, Disgaea, Valkeryie Profile].
  • Pixel Art. (It looks amaizing in my opinion.)

The only downside is that my laptop is a toaster in disguise and it runs the game with low FPS, but thats not the point of the thread.

What I’m asking here is for tips of what cards I should craft first. I want to play it as a F2P (Because I’m just a teenager and I don’t a have job neither money to spent in this game, but it really deserves it).

I really liked Magmar, Vanar and Abyssian. So, I would like to know which are the best cards I could craft for these factions playing on a budget and start the climb in ranked. Also it would be great if you could also sugest the upgrades for those budget cards once I saved enough Spirit.

I have to say that I’m not asking for a full decklist, just tips to start crafting and building a decent budget deck. (If I fail at this I’ll surrender to netdecking).

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

(Also, I couldn’t decide if had to categorize this thread in “Introduction” or “Decklist”, but since I’m asking for deckbuilding tips and not a full decklist… And also I’m introducing myself to the community, I´ll leave it as an Introduction.)

(Also I know there are videos and guides about what I´m asking but the ones that I could find were from 11 to 6 months ago, so I would like some updated tips. I heard that with the next expansion some cards will be rotating out of ranked, I wouldn’t like to end up spending a lot of spirit in cards that I won´t be able to play in a couple of months, just because I followed an old guide.)
[I don’t say this trying to ofend the authors of those guides, the ones I saw were very good and well made guides, I just want to craft according to the current state of the game and meta]

Welcome to Duelyst!
If you’re looking for must Craft cards, the first one I know of would be makantor warbeast on Magmar, he’s been a staple since he came out.

Since I’m not very good at deck building, I won’t advise anything else

Welcome to Duelyst though!

nice to see some enthusiastic new blood, welcome to the tower kid.
if you are just starting just get yourself tons of core orbs, they are the backbone of most decks, there is gona be a new expansion coming soon, cirka 4-6 weeks, so you might wait a bit with other stuff. The rotating set is gona be Denizans of shimzar, so you might not buy them if you want to be competitive.
Honestly, experiment, try what works for you thats where the fun is for me most of the times.

Well, if you want to build a good budget deck that avoids set rotations, I have 3 pieces of advice for you:

  1. Build decks centered around the core card set. The core card set will never be rotated out (though there are a few cards that will be so make sure to check out thread for that.

  2. Avoid Vetruvian. It’s called the most expensive faction for a reason and while you can create a decent budget deck with it, the other factions just do it better.

  3. Focus on reliability and run mostly x3 of all your cards. That one legendary card you have may seem powerful, but it means jack squat if you can’t draw it in the first place. Alternatively, cards that draw cards (ex: Scion’s first wish) help you in thinning your deck which helps you get to whatever your win-condition combo is.

Other than that, most budget decks won’t change much. A card or two might be changed, but that’s usually it. If you want more detailed help, there are people who do deck reviews or even replay analyses here on the forums so feel free to post about it!

That’s it from me,

Welcome to the Forums!

Always thought that was Abyssian?

3 copies of a card helps with consistency, having 9 two mana cost minions usually gives you at least 1 of them in your starting hand, knowing what your win condition is for your deck will help you when you are building the rest of the deck around it.

Hello new player! Welcome to the Forums! First things first, as @zero3999 said, craft core orbs more than anything else for three reasons:

  1. One, you may decide to switch to another faction later on and since every faction has some of their staple cards in core, you can always find something good.

  2. An expansion will be coming up soon which means a whole new meta which means certain factions will become really good and others really bad. As a new player you will want to make sure not to over invest in any one faction and you can avoid this by buying core orbs only.

  3. The drop rates for the core orbs are much better than any others so you can start building your collection easier.

I think if you had to pick one faction to stick with, it would definitely be Magmar as it is very cheap, new player friendly in terms of skill requirements, competitive and throughout all the metas that have been seen in this game, Magmar has never been at the bottom including the current one right now (unless you count memes).

For decklists in case you decide to have a look, @deathsadvocate has an entire thread dedicated for them both high in spirit and budget for each expansion:

For tierlists and meta updates, @kirabi uploads to the forums a compilation of tier lists made by prominent skilled players in the community. Here is the tier list compilation he has updated for this month:

@mmf has linked you already to a user who does replay analysis to help you better your game, @apexkilljoy has also created a thread for users to post their replays and receive help from the community as well.

For general deck building advice, I think any videos you can find unless they were made during this game’s beta stage still apply today and will be very helpful so you should be fine in that area.

My own piece of personal advice would be to watch replays ALL. THE. TIME. Even at the expense of playing. Some people will disagree with this, but I think many others would agree that watching replays of other skilled players played a massive role in their reaching gold/diamond/S when they previously were unable to.

That should be it! Welcome to the forums, may your stay be as rewarding as we feel for having you here!

Hello and welcome! While I’ve not any significant advice myself, I came to tell you to check out some of the people streaming Duelyst on twitch! They are super helpful and nice, not to mention they are also very entertaining. Check 'em out!

Welcome!

My main piece of advice is to pick a main faction and avoid disenchanting good cards from other factions, as you’ll need them later. Additionally, I wouldn’t bother disenchanting commons or rares.

As far as great cards go, I have a convenient list here:

Be sure to check out Duelyst Wiki for many helpful tips in the new player section. It contains budget decks, disenchant guides and more!!! @boronian could probably explain better, just saw noone plosted this down here.

Hi new player, I’m dad…

Nah, that doesn’t work.

Anyway, welcome to the forums! Since the first set rotation is right around the corner, I recommend that you stay away from crafting Shimzar orbs if you want to play in the rotating format. That being said, new game modes will probably be introduced that let you play anything, so they should be at least somewhat useful.

Honestly, my advice is to just play whatever effects that seem interesting, and narrow down your scope from there. Magmar, and Vanar have a lot of good cards in Bloodbound Ancients, so the spiky orbs are a good choice.

Oh! Forgot to mention, Duelyst has a sort of “Rite of passage” where, on each level, you are frustrated by a single thing:

Level 1: Shadow Watcher
Level 2: Reva Eventide
Level 3: Holy Immolation
Level 4: Complain about "uninteractiveness"
True Duelyst pro: "Everything is broken"
Kevin2god : “we need 50 card decks”

Welcome! Should you wish to play more Abyssian, literally the only thing that is an absolute must is to at some point craft 3 Desolators. They are legendary so it’s a pain, but they fit in almost every deck. Until then, you can build a really good Lilithe hyperswarm budget deck of which there are multiple lists floating around.

idk dude, maybe not desolator? it’ll be rotated soon

Hyperswarm? The very expensive deck that depends really hard on 3 DFC and 3 Grimwar, which are both legendaries?

Soon? As in a year from now?

Desolator rotates out in a year when every other non-core card that exists in the game currently rotates out, so he is relatively safe to craft.

One example above (maybe my use of aggro Swarm as a synonym for hyperswarm isn’t so conventional tho). Dependance is a strong word imo. Like I said, the only “must” in Abyss is Desolator.
