Duelyst Patch 1.82 – Ancient Bonds Expansion Launch – Duelyst

Duelyst Patch 1.82 – Ancient Bonds Expansion Launchby Counterplay Games / March 14, 2017

Ancient Bonds Expansion Launch!

We have 39 new cards arriving in this expansion with a focus on tribal synergies between minions with a unique type like Arcanysts and Golems, a new Keyword “Bond” that triggers when minions of the same tribe are played to the board, and a variety of new strategies and effects to try out in your decks. Check out a few of the new cards below, and see the full set.

These new cards can be collected from Ancient Orbs purchased through the in-game Armory. Ancient Orbs are a special type of Spirit Orb, similar in structure to Bloodborn Orbs from our previous Rise of the Bloodborn Expansion. Each Ancient Orb contains a full playset (3 copies) of 3 unique cards from the Ancient Bonds expansion and will never contain duplicates of any card you have already owned. This means that after opening 13 Ancient Orbs you will be guaranteed to have added 3 copies of all 39 new Ancient Bonds cards to your collection.

Ancient Orbs cost 300 gold or $2.99 each. Alternatively, the entire Ancient Bonds set can be purchased for $19.99 by buying a one-time purchase 13 Ancient Orb bundle.

Balance Changes

Cards that have a mana cost of 0 are uniquely powerful, as they don’t limit the other actions you can take on your turn. We are increasing the cost of two 0-mana cards, Inner Focus and Slo, as they were proving to be too efficient and were limiting the strength we could give new cards going forward.

Inner Focus (Songhai Spell – Core Set) – Cost changed from 0 to 1.

There are so many stylish combinations of spells that Songhai players use to burst their opponent, with Inner Focus acting as the centerpiece of some of the more egregious cases. We’ve increased the cost of Inner Focus to 1 in order to up the cost of some of the more destructive turns, especially those involving multiple casts of Inner Focus or otherwise full turns with Inner Focus added in for free.

Slo (Lyonar Minion – Denizens of Shim’Zar set) – Cost changed from 0 to 1.

Slo accomplishes a lot in the early game. It could snag a mana tile to let Lyonar play more expensive cards a turn earlier, take over the board alongside other minions, or allow Lyonar to cast Holy Immolation with only 4 mana. We’ve increased Slo’s cost to 1 to curb these early power plays.

For roughly 1 week after the change, Slo will be disenchantable for full spirit value. Disenchant values are not applicable to Inner Focus, as basic cards are not craftable/disenchantable.

Other Changes with Ancient Bonds

Kara Winterblade (Vanar General – Core Set) – Bloodborn Spell changed to “Friendly minions summoned this turn gain +1/+1”.

Kara’s previous rework left her trailing behind the other Generals, and many of the tools she wanted to use to catch-up didn’t quite work when you had to cast your Bloodborn Spell before summoning them. Now, Kara’s BBS will work both before AND after you’ve summoned minions for the turn, allowing you to keep your options open while making a number of select cards much more appealing.

Diamond Golem (Neutral Minion – Core Set) – Stats changed from 4/11 to 5/11.

Diamond Golem wants to prove its worth in Ancient Bonds. Thankfully, this extreme pressure has the friendly Golem looking sharper than ever!

Upcoming Roadmap

  • iOS Beta currently in limited testing, ramping up to wider testing soon.
  • Android build in development.
  • Additional game modes including continuous draft with cross-faction decks.
  • Weekly boss battles.
  • Continuing card expansions throughout the year, including sets of different sizes (expect the next expansion to be larger than Ancient Bonds 39 cards!)

Slo totatlly deserved.

The Kara bbs spell just makes it affect stuff like Fenrir Warmaster’s Dying Wish Spirit Wolf right?

I like the diamond golem, slo, and Inner Focus changes (I wish the Inner Focus change was also the same one that happened to Siphon Energy but oh well).

BBS means now you can use it after summoning minions it still proc on it.

Inner Focus nerfed

Meanwhile in Enfeeble, Trinity Oath, and Punish land:

In all seriousness, I already cut Inner Focus from some of my decks. It frees up space for tons of different decks, so w/e. Still not happy about the other broken cards running around, though.

Oh okay, thanks makes arcanysts much better then, also not to mention lore master shenanigans…

All of these changes feel appropriate.

Inner Focus was the cause of a lot of big combos and turned some minions into out of hand damage.

Slo nabbing free mana tiles and being a free body to position a Holy Immolation easily was pretty obnoxious, especially when you consider a 1/4 provoke for 0 mana is already really powerful.

Kara’s buff provides more consistency with certain cards without making her too powerful.

Diamond Golem was always outshined by Brightmoss in my book, since a little extra HP was not worth the additional mana. Now at least it hits a little harder too.

As a player heavily biased against Songhai I am happy to see it. Still is a godlike card and I think will be 3x in every deck. Slo nerf was deserved as well. As a Lyonar player.

Weird, I never had an issue with inner focus, even as a non-songhai player. It didn’t feel bad to play against, and didn’t seem oppressive. Slo I was on the fence about, so I am okay with the nerf (and I would have been okay if it had stayed the same).

Really looking forward to this expansion! Though I may be out another 20 bucks…lol

I like all of these changes and overall like the limited amount of randomness in this set.

This is EXACTLY the buff I wanted for Kara! This is awesome. As for the zero mana cards, it’s rather unexpected, and it should be interesting to see how it impacts the game. I guess Lyonar ramp was OP and Songhai could kill you out of hand for 5 mana, so it makes sense. I hope Songhai recovers well.

Golem buff makes me happy, I love to see older, weaker cards brought back, especially with how relevant this one is.

Nice troll mate

Pros:

  • Expansion Hype!
  • Slo + Immolate is not a thing anymore
  • Inner Focus nerf seems fair, and not overdone
  • The team appears to be willing to buff weak cards. This is exciting news, and there is plenty to look forward to in future patches
  • Patch came 1 day early

Cons:

  • Mobile release seems to be unlikely to happen in Q1
  • No Serpenti tribe
  • Sajj still has no heals
  • “Maintenance in Progress, please stand by…”

These cons are pretty minor though. Time to play silly decks before the meta settles again!

Do anyone think Kaleos Xaan’s Blood borne spell need to upgrade too?
It will be awesome if:
(1) after teleport give this minion backstab in this turn
(2) after teleport give 1 attack point for this minion (or in this turn )

I love Songhai concept but It’s really disadvantage when compare Kaleos Xaan with other generals. If you want revive old card please revise Kaleos Xaan as well

do we know when it will finish patching? seems odd to be patching at 9pm at night

Lol about time they got slo and inner focus now on to the rest for the “trouble” cards.

I dont understand the Kara bbs change it still ends on your turn???

Divine bond decks might be the strongest decks after this expansion.

It’s so that you don’t have to think about BBS as much, makes it simpler. Also combos with cryptographer better.

I’m not even gonna read the other replies yet, just answer this: Why did you nerf inner focus? It was the CORE of any physical songhai deck! Especially back stab! Songhai isn’t nearly as useful as it was.(I would like to see the win rates honestly) Not only do I have to build around draw for cards that get burned anyhow and have to patiently sort them for that burst you mentioned but now one of those same cards costs infinitely more (0—>1 change is 0 times an impossible number hence infinite[Trying to make this simple]) than it used to with NO other benefit. Or even special combo I can use right off. I will comment again after I test this and read the other comments but personally I don’t see this as being balanced. Than you for the update, looks fun. I really hope the cards that come of this are amazing!

P.S. NEVER trust and edited comment.
