Coldharbour Forge (chat about Mech, Vanar or both)

Haha! Well in this case a two drop is not mandatory.
Maybe some Blazehound for draw, a removal, or something else?

@humancalc I haven’t been impressed by Oropsisaur as of yet, do you think it’ll be faster than the standalone threat that is Kolossus in this context?

Nevermind. Thought it will be nice with Godhammer.
Maybe too much low health guys too bash or something.

Speaking of fast threats, why have you abandoned Makantor :magsad:?

Makantor instead of Warpup. Yes.

Venom Burn

Well two things occured. First I saw a few matches of the world championships where everyone and their sister were playing Letigress.
Secondly it occurred to me that I never played with Venom Toth, and that the ninja wanabe could be pretty fun against all type of common swarm decks (Jax, Fault, Wraithlings, Gor, Eggs, Obelysks).

So here’s a list:
We’re going midrange and burn, toolbox and Aspects.

Card choice explanations

  • Between Bloodtear Alchemist and Snow Chaser, I have four 1drops which is a sweet spot for Aspect or buff combos.
  • Crypto+Mentor package for Warbirds.
  • Hearth Sister to help maximize burn above, and also good movement trick for end game burst of damage.
  • Aspect of the Ravager, good removal given the amount of ping we have here.
  • Blaze Hound personal preference over Spelljammer, but simply a spot for any card draw bully.
  • Venom Toth is as explained, a good joke to play on some decks. Also pings the General, I believe we’re getting good at removing artifacts.
  • Blistering Skorn solid annoyance and good stats, ping you again.
  • Malicious Wisp for overall oppression, and good synergy with our end game bombs (Aspect of the Mountain, EMP).
  • Wailing Overdrive our damage burst and first win condition provider.
  • Letigress seems to be excellent by itself, but also has potentially cool combos with Wailing Overdrive and the Aspects.
  • Aspect of the Wyrm for the surprise value. Cool stuff with Letigress and Rush. Potential EMP or Overdrive bully flying in the face of enemy.
  • Aspect of the Mountain I like: Saberspine Cub is not so cute anymore, and it also works well on any 1drop or Malicious Wisp.
  • EMP the good old reset button.

I don’t see room or need for the more expensive signature Vanar end-game combos, but tell me if you think otherwise.
No walls because of the route taken with EMP.

Deck checklist

  • :ballot_box_with_check: 9 turn one minions
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Card draw
  • :crown: Ping artifacts
  • :no_entry_sign: Healing
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Area of Effect
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Removal / Answers
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Burst damage
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Win Conditions
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Ramp or speed
  • :grey_question: Memery - You tell me.

End thoughts

Very pretentious of me to look at World Championship matches and think I understood something. I just mean it gave me inspiration to try something new - and it’s fun.
I enjoy this list as it provides a varied assortment of answers and combos, and for once it can provide valid mulligan choices depending on the opponent’s General.

Cheers :blue_heart:

PETS LOL

Full credits to @miguelosz who developped and promoted the concept all this time. How could we be so blind?

Well I crafted Rawr and Calculator out of my todo list, and boy was I surprised at how good this can potentially high roll.

Opening move with Gravity Well + Battle Pet is solid and makes sure your opponent will not enjoy his early game. Bur is a bully.
You should assume the aggro role most times in the early game.

You try to assemble a hand for silly big calculator, pretty common when there are Rawr and Yun around. Calculator is often 11~14 in attack rating and demands immediate removal. Then you have Moonlight Basilisk that also demands immediate removal. Then you have Rawr who will apply good pressure if it comes down to that.

Top end is about control with Cloudcaller and Letigress, both providing “removal” and sticky bodies for Wailing Overdrive. I particularly like Letigress and WO, they do work well together.

Miguel’s Vanar pets is about flooding the board and Kara’s BBS makes a lot of sense here. Mine is more mid-range so I went with Faie in case my end game needs a few more pings of damage and to compensate for the zoning of Wailing Overdrive.

I tried a few versions and for example Cryonic Potential can never target a Battle Pet, even if it has attacked. No need to try that.
Aspect of the Mountain is a card I really like and wanted to include, but I had to replace it. Your pets always suicide, or position in such a silly way that make no sense for this AOE. And in the rare cases where all stars align, you don’t have the ability to move Seismic Elemental if it was born from an exhausted pet. So there’s your chance for Cloudcaller to shine. Could also be Frostburn I suppose.

The deck does work surprisingly well, and I must praise @miguelosz again for developing the concept. You will definitely catch some people by surprise.

Looks like a fun deck again!

No Hearth Sister in there? Do you really need the Wisps?

Valid suggestion on Hearth Sister, it’d be a solid addition. I will let other testers figure out what’s best to replace from their own experience.

I remember having an idea with Potential and pets before which went very quickly to the trash can  Neat deck!

Reflections upon Death

After a brilliant suggestion from @gsvalhalla, Dying Wish Vanar piqued my interest.
I started to tinker with Dying Wish and exchanged a couple of messages with @snowshot on the topic.

So here the idea is to use Dying Wish minions and walls to create a sticky board. Auroraboros is not a straightforward card but can really make your board very resilient.
Using this board we have good shot at using Flawless Reflection to its full effect.

https://duelyst.gamepedia.com/Auroraboros

Card explanations:

  • Ramp with Crystal Wisp and Manaforger, the latter being very important in this spell-heavy deck.
  • Shiro Puppydragon has above average health and can really help trade more effectively if left unchecked. It has excellent synergy with Luminous Charge.
  • Dying Wish minions selected: Dioltas and Grimes. They have intrinsic qualities, but when paired with Auroraboros they become very annoying.
  • Grandmaster Embla classically provides both tokens and a good body for Flawless Reflection.

.

  • Spellwise we have walls, and short of dispel Auroraboros makes them a superior level of sticky and annoying. Note: Luminous Charges resurrected on opponent’s turn are 0/1, hence Shiro Puppydragon to activate their capacity to attack.
  • Auroraboros should be played when you can, do not be greedy and delay or you’ll get a board wipe and lose all opportunity to play it. It will sound weird but if you don’t have the card it’s not a big problem - just find something else to reinforce a sticky board (even Primus Shieldmaster would do the trick)
  • Aspect of the Mountain, Flawless Reflection, Winter’s Wake are your win conditions. They are numerous and flexible enough to make the deck very interesting to play. You won’t struggle to find a way to win.

Grimes and Dioltas provide both primary Flawless Reflection targets (if nothing better available) AND secondary tokens and lesser bodies to multiply the reflections of everything else you fancy.

Deck checklist

  • :crown: 9 turn one minions
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Card draw
  • :no_entry_sign: Ping artifacts
  • :no_entry_sign: Healing
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Area of Effect
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Removal / Answers
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Burst damage
  • :crown: Win Conditions
  • :ballot_box_with_check: Ramp or speed (but the deck is very end-game focused)
  • :mage: Memery

i switches grimes into cloudcallers and it came out very well for those that don’t like using rng that much

Thematically though, wouldn’t removing Grimes make it no longer a Dying Wish deck?
That would leave a lonely Dioltas holding the Dying Wish name :slightly_frowning_face:.

well yea you’re right, i would however try to place the fenrir 2.0 somewhere there.

@bepoest, @miguelosz, anyone, what about battlepet Nemeton?

You can’t keep them alive, that’s the problem. Rawr gives you several tokens but most of them die very fast. So it is a worse Kron.
Also having one card locked away hurts your Calculators (if you play them) I guess.

Vanar doesn’t have a spell to add Pets to your hand, otherwise with that and Mantella there might be some hybrid build which could be ok enough to have fun with.

I gave it a try and so far it seems like a difficult deck. Some pets are tokens, but all of them are suicidal.
Might be that we are too demanding on the Pet side. Maybe a replace-based Nemeton with Rawr, Bur and Snow Rippler spliced in? Noting that the random pets those give you might not be tokens.

Reminds me that @halcyon98 has this deck https://duelspot.com/deck/nemetons-pet-parlour/
It only has Mantella and Snow Rippler though. Has no battle pets directly in deck.

Having a look at the available battle pets, maybe you could use Koi as a cheap 1 mana minion to finish the trial.
(Edit: Oops. Forgot not all battle pets are tokens :slightly_frowning_face:.)

Definitely sounds hard to squeeze in the battle pet theme into a Nemeton deck.

Wow, I remember that dumb deck. It’s really fun, actually. :eyes:

Unfortunately Koi isn’t a token, so this wouldn’t work.

I like Halcyon’s approach: you don’t care as much that the pets are suicidal since you’re aiming to collect a few 1-mana tokens in your Action Bar and complete the trial all in one go before they get a chance to kill themselves. It’s certainly not the most competitive option, but since Mantella and Rippler are both commons, I could see functioning as an engine in some sort of budget build.
