Coldharbour Forge (chat about Mech, Vanar or both)

We used to have a nice Mech discussion thread but it’s closed now.
I don’t think we had a proper Vanar discussion space in more than a year. So

Welcome to the Coldharbour Forge

This thread is an idea dump for anything related to Mechs, Vanar, or both.
We welcome any meme, competitive discussion, or noob questions.

Starting with a gimmicky Kara, Scarzig/Dasher, and Mechaz0r. EDIT: This is a fragile memery of a deck.

A community poll made me craft Mirkblood Devourer, and I think it’s a pretty neat unit to play with Mechs, which desperately need some “Oompf”.

This deck plays rather defensively, until you are able to switch to offensive mode with a Sleet Dash run or a Scarzig transform.

Mechaz0r construction is slow, because of not too many mechs… But it’s a looming threat that will make your opponent keep a removal in hand instead of dumping it on your value generators.

The usual Luminous Charge trap with Kara’s BBS is a classic fallback plan.

As a slight courtesy for improved readability:

I’m very impressed with how not-bad Auroraboros looks in these replays, the combos with Metaltooth and Deliverant are pretty sweet.

He says the deck is bad.

That makes sense. All of Zohan’s decks look like they’re fun to play, and obviously they lend themselves to awesome highlight reels, but they also seem like they could be maddeningly inconsistent in actual play. I guess I’m just grateful that he puts in the time to get the good outcomes and shares the replays with us.

Zohan’s decks only works when Zohan plays it.

I crafted 2x Auroraboros immediately after seeing these replays, haha.
Anyway this card is probably interesting in Wall or Nemeton, it’s on my todo list.

I haven’t seen a replay where Zurael was put to use though. I’m almost thinking the old chicken is only an honorary member of the deck, only included to pay respect to the theme.

Seen as this is a general Vanar thread I will drop my favourite deck I built, or at least the current itteration:

Into the tool box (Named by Snowshot)

Funnily enough this uses mechs as Replicator is an amazing generic card.

Thanks for sharing.

I don’t understand Aspect of the Ravager over Aspect of Care Bear, I only thought Ravager was a better choice when paired with Dancing Blades.
What is your opinion?

Ravager is better tempo wise as Bear just trades into everything.

I uploaded a replay named “Best Zurael ever.” Not sure for which day it is planned to be open to public though

Should be this week because I only uploaded replays till Sunday (for now, doing more ofc).

Edit: Just checked and it is the video for today  @bepoest enjoy it at 7pm GMT+2.

You had a preview of the deck before, but here it is in it’s full optimal glory.
Well, as optimal as I’m going to make it.

At it’s worst, it’s an average control deck. At it’s best, it’s a rage-inducing highroll spitting machine.

You have Hearth-Sister and Repulsor Beast to really optimize the effects of your BBS, Sunset Paragon and Lightbender. These last two allow to contain a very wide range of opposing decks, and put bodies on the floor for possible use with Razorback.

In this list I positively love Alcuin Loremaster, to either reinforce my own strategy, or to give the opponent a taste of its own medicine (Glacial Fissuring back felt awesome).

Malicious Wisp is going your #1 mana oppressor, and ideally you will disable it’s Dying Wish with Lightbender or Aspect of Ego.
The #2 mana overdrive is going to be Aspect of Ego on Jax Truesight. It’s a huge swing in board presence and probably a game ender.

Other win conditions include Razorback after you have established a board, and Saberspine Alpha which is a solid card on its own. Did you know that playing Aspect of Ego on an Alpha has 4 chances out of 5 to give you a minion with better attack? How cool would it be to high roll at 8 mana with a Rushing Paddo?

All around good deck, with solid support from mana ramp and Faie’s continuous burn, and very satisfying moments.

If you feel at ease without Spelljammer, I suggest Grimes instead, and in that case you might also be inclined to replace Alcuin Loremaster with Bloodbound Mentor.

Sabertooth reminds me of Icicle’s mid list.
