Word-to-Card Contest (June 2019)

It’s that time again: the ninth monthly Word-to-Card Contest begins! Here are this month’s words for you to choose from:

  • ECOPHENOTYPE (chosen by bepoest)
a phenotype modified by specific adaptive response to environmental factors
  • NARCISSIST (chosen by epicflygon)
a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves
  • HAMARTIA
a fatal flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero or heroine

Rules
  • Design a card that relates to the word of the month that you choose in any way
  • You may only submit one card
  • Submit your card in one of the two acceptable formats
  • If using the visual format and you choose art from a different faction than what you want your card to be, make sure to specify your card’s faction
  • Don’t make an obviously overpowered or underpowered card
  • Don’t copy cards other people have posted or cards from other card games
  • Don’t make up your own keywords (there is no need for a single card), but inventing special tiles and tokens is fine

Submission Format

Make a card on this website and upload it here (recommended), or (if you are planning on changing your card often before the deadline) use this format:

Name (Cost)
Faction Type [Attack/Health] (Rarity)
Abilities

Example:

Praise the Sun! (5)
Lyonar Spell (Legendary)
If this is the third time you praised the sun this game, restore your General to full health.

OR (this way looks way better)

Prizes

1st place: 5 Core Orbs, get to decide one of next month’s words

2nd place: 4 Core Orbs

3rd place: 3 Core Orbs

Important Dates

June 15 – Submissions close, community voting begins

June 22 – Community voting ends, winners are honored and sent their prizes

The words are tough this month, so good luck! :vankiss:

Guess I’ll start…
Here’s mine:

Related to hamartia. The fatal flaw is obviously the pride, the unwavering confidence in their martial skills that Lyonar generals have, which might lead to their downfall.

The card is intended as Grandmaster Z’ir support. On 7 mana, you can play Z’ir + this card and you can easily suicide your General. Z’ir doesn’t see much play because it’s actually kind of hard to kill your general on your turn, especially with 2 or less mana left.

NARCISSIST

X is equal to the total amount of life stolen using this spell, accumulated as charges each time this spell is used.

EX: 4 minions on board, unfathomable drain hasn’t been cast yet. It will steal 8 health from the minions, but cannot be cast on the enemy general because it hasn’t stolen life yet. Next turn if it is cast on the enemy general, it will steal 8 health from them, but you can continue to steal life from minions to get a bigger burst, if desired. Once cast to steal health from the enemy general, its X value is returned to 0 (because it loses all of its charges) and you would need to steal more life from minions to damage the enemy general.

Like that creep spell, this won’t steal more health than the current health of the minions (so using it on wraithlings will only steal 1 health and only yields 1 charge).

 Madman, I am now actually obligated to figure out an Ecophenotype card.
FML.

For Ecophenotype. Bits of lore in the pre-abyssians’ rite to devour genes and memories from other species - surely an outside factor.

Mechanically it is mostly a stabler Reliquarian without a body that can double as removal.

Beat ya to it!

ECOPHENOTYPE

Why has no one noticed that Silithar Elder is a Creeper in disguise until now? :thonk:

Filling these empty ecological niches when other species disappear.
(ecophenotype)

A neutral card.

Hamartia:

The fatal flaw is greed. You can make your stacked decks, but it will probably be inconsistent. The effect stacks, so you can have a deck with up to 70 cards.

What is this nostalgia about?

My attempt at Narcissist.

Well…its Invulnerable…so it is untargetable as well.

Oh I misread that keyword.

Ecophenotype, Neutral.

Shadow Creep

Hallowed Ground

Primal Flourish

Exhuming Sand

Mana Spring

*Edit + Note: Used Mana Springs also count as Tiles, so Cascade is its default form if the number of faction tiles is 2 or less. If it is exactly 3, the game does a coin flip to decide which form Tellurian Anomaly takes.

*Disclaimer: These are supposed to be tokens but I forgot to change the rarity.

Yay, tile support! Tiles are pretty much the most “environmental” mechanic in Duelyst so I made a tile-based shapeshifter! There isn’t really much to be said here.

Now, this is exactly what I didn’t want to do…

…I’m so lazy…

…it appears that he is some sort of forgotten god, though, and I’m guessing he always wanted to put more cards in his deck.

Yes, that about sums it up…
