I never play Vanar but I agree that it looks like they overnerfed the faction. When I saw the AoR/CC/Frostburn nerf I thought that ToM would bring very powerful removal and what Vanar received? Aspect of ego…And now they even nerf mdg and corona. Now they either plan on giving to the faction very very strong cards on the next expac or they must revert some of this nerfs
The state of Vanar & An overview of recent Vanar history
I can tell you now that NOTHING they will give in an expac will do much.
They need to denerfs some of the cards or at least buff some other.
The reason being - EVERY key control tool has been nerfed, which means every arcytype now suffer a nerf.
You can’t support early game of every archype and with it give support to existing tribe or new mechanics.
As for now early and mid game is shit unless (controlwise) and there’s no card that will fix it.
IF they will give a card that will fix the problem (in my wildest dreams) the card will be considered broken af and all the newbies will call for a nerf and we know damn well how easy cpg’s spine breaks under pressure.
I already posted my thoughts on Oak in the Nemeton over here.
This is a bit of a tangent, but I’ve been thinking about how you could redesign it to be a less disappointing card. Apart from being unplayable, it’s also boring, and seems to be designed to support an archetype that doesn’t actually exist.
Just spitballing ideas, here. I first started playing Vanar because I loved the aesthetic, but stayed because I loved how it was by far the most “board-aware” faction. Literally the only one that cares what part of the board both players are positioning their minions and generals on. I also loved the little “ambushes” you could set up using stuff like Faie’s BBS, Infiltrate, Avalanche and (later) Glacial Fissure, where you pressure the opponent to position in certain ways and then punish them for it.
With that in mind, here’s my (probably bad) attempt at a position-based Mythron:
Trial: Summon 5 different types of minions in the central column.
Destiny: Your BBS becomes Mesmerize + your BBS.
(Basically, whenever you use your BBS you can select an enemy minion OR general and move them one square before your BBS fires).
That sounds pretty weak, but combined with those other tools I think it could be devastating in the right hands. And the best part is, though it would obviously be best on Faie, it wouldn’t be useless on the other two generals either. Kara could move generals/minions into the range of buffed walls or other minions, and Ilena could shift things into range of her BBS so she could stun them. Not a wincon in itself, but a way to compliment other wincons.
Thoughts?
I posted the thread in reddit, yes.
But if you’re talking about the list: I have yet to garner enough data on it as I’m currently in Silver as school exists for me.
Yo hit me up with a midrange Vanar list.
Midrange vanar is weird
It’s incredibly fun but ridiculously hard to play.
@isgopet here you go:
This is Solafid’s list, after the most recent patch nothing has changed.
That’s like six legendaries I’m short. Oooooof, my spirit
Unless you’re ready to put in the work to play the deck and win with it (It takes a lot and I mean A LOT) don’t take the plunge.
What else would I spend it on.
Next expansion.
Crafting astral crusader
Heretics, all hail the great lord Serpenti!! [undulating ensues]
He probably already has serpenti.
Crusader on the other hand…
Status report:
Running sotw deck - 60% loses for 30% before the nerfs.
Boys, we lost another one.
The deck i’m running will be uploaded in a minute.
version 1.
version 2.
the nerf to corona is a bad bad BAD nerf, and the implications are overbreaking.
no more stall, no more turn 2 diciple to start sticking minions early.
maybe replacing corona with frost will be the way to go + flash freeze and a draw generator, but then you need draw and you lose a lot of place for heavy hitters.
Find space for 3x Circulus and 2-3x Blue Conjurer in every deck then.
I use to run 2-3 conjurers in every deck but it works better for me with caller.
