Wait for next expansion

Vanar will probably get some new tools
But I do agree that it seems pretty underehelming rn

But I hate frostiva

Hopefully but every card needs to be crazy strong for Vanar to be rescued, last expac was the same to a lesser extent.

Really all vanar needs is a strong new win condition to build around and a few cards to support that archetype to be more viable

They need good disruption, draw and most importantly removal.

Seraphim & Embla are solid wincons, shame the rest of the faction is awful.

Vanar has gotten good epics and Legendaries in the last sets. I miss good common or rare tool cards.

I didn’t like Wanderlust in the end it is way to hard to use it right.
Thicket Augur is quite good imo, it even supports an archetype with Memeton
Moose is ok and supports the self disenchant archetype with Mali and Sellsoul.

Aspect of Ego is just too random to be real removal+ doesn’t help against costly threats.
Endless Hunt is neat but pales in comparison to Legion ( a common! ) imo
Berseker is just meh… uninspired

Yeah, my favourite archetype is one that I don’t have to dust myself as I build towards more prismatic Vanar cards.

Man frostiva is a diamond in the rough, the shit this card can pull when not answered is game crazy.

P.s. - my favorite card alondside penumbraxx

Vanar state is sad. The faction always had bad minions overall, but it was able to overcome this weakness by means of strong removals and ramp. Vanar was bad even before the last patch, I guess now it’s even worse. Abyssian was in a similar spot, although I think the reintroduction of the Shimzar cards helped the faction to recover a bit.

It’s sad, really, and yet another problem coming from “undecided” developers. What’s the role of Vanar in the game? When I started playing, it was mostly an aggro faction, which later became a control faction. Now it just seems a weak faction. Vespyrs are one of their trademarks, yet none is able to play them given how easily they die…

tl;dr: imo, Vanar is fine as it is, but it would be very beneficial to the game to give it new, interesting tools to play with

Long version

As a dedicated Vanar player that plays no other factions (even though I learned how to play with Magmar and Vetruvian before switching to the blue guys full time) I can summarize Vanar very simply:

jack of all trades and master of none. It’s true that Van can do it all, but most things Van can do are done much better by the other factions.

I was getting to that in a post (which I will now paste and edit here) from a different thread:

There are factions that have access to many different viable and strong deck archetypes because of all their tools (Magmar is the prime example, but Lyonar and Abyssian are also extremely versatile) whereas some other factions have 1 or 2 broken-tier decks that are so strong they kinda remove the fun from the game (Vanar, Vetruvian and Songhai each have at least 1 type of deck like this) but then if you try anything else, it falls flat on its face.

I’m a Vanar fanboy and I see that this has probably been brought up already by someone because Mythron gave Ilena lots of new tools to play around with Stun for example, and that is definitely a step in the right direction… all I’m saying is that we need more of that, a lot more of that actually, so that all 6 factions have room for creativity and originality at the time of creating a successful competitive list.

Been playing vanar since closed beta, this is the sadest state vanar ever been in.
Vanar has no broken decks and the most broken decks they have are control and aggro faie and they are broken only in the hands of skilled players.
Vanar is fuction of synergies meaning - big cards, very control, alot of short synergies, big boom.
But nerfing the fuck out of every card and limiting the synergies on them the funtion build is a way to break a faction.

Let’s look at it -

Corona - aggro nerf, infiltrate nerf (no longer can hold the general in their side of the board), stun nerf (deciple now triggers on 5 instead of 4, punish combo which cost abyss 3 cost vanar 4, NO DRAW WHATSOEVER, ilena power to clear just got more expensive).

MDG - DIRECT NERF to ramp and control decks - hurts like a bitch ( nerf for vespyr decks who run chasers instead of wisp, nerf for sotw that run heavy decks with rescue rx or shasers) will only see play in arca. Vanar which also got nerfed because of shimzar and corona.

Shimzar - as for now everyone is using thorn, beside vanar.
Songhai got protocol, vet got kinematic.

This is after nerfs where accure to ravager, cc, frostburn.

Mythron gave vanar a stupid trail, not even worth running (ask @epicflygon how many decks i ran for it) while most of the trails are managable, this one is not even a meme.
Ilena got half assed cards (beside deciple which saw a big nerf - corona.)
Frost is not as good, i rather run flash freeze, and resonance is meme artifact.
Ilena got shit man(excluding diciple), what are you talking about?

What competitive? Man i run vespyr and sotw to the max, i am really good with these decks and you can’t out play most of the deck today becuase those tools rhat got nerfed are crucial! I will probably win a fair amount of the games but i’m not a new player nor i new to the faction.
And basically every faction can do everything that’s the whole point, one general for each of the archytypes.

I think someone upstairs made a mistake.

Off topic request.

Can you post your Snowhai deck somewhere, @epicflygon?

On topic. I agree.

Hideatsu the ebon ox flashbacks.
On topic, yeah this is quite the ridiculous trial, mainly because it is such a winmore card thats so hard to pull off

I Agree. Up.
Well some cards like CC and shimzar are okay to nerf, i understand that.
But nerf to corona made me sad the most, and the other aspect too.
I always know Vanar for it’s control tools.
But now…
Also Vanar need a strong identity, i mean infiltrate is kinda meh, Vespyr is playable but not really good, and yet the trial is about spawning token, what? (for example why not summon 7-10 vespyr minions? And your vespyr got buffed for the rest of the game)

Here it is, here is the golden Vanar deck, here is the “relatively easy to play” viable Vanar deck.
