Songhai decklists (est. patch 1.93)

I disagree, MDS is more powerful than Juxtaposition in Midrange lists, doubly so one that already has Horn/Protocol + OBS anyway.

My first thoughts, at a glance would be to remove Bamboozle for MDS, then shave some 4/3 drops to add 1/2 more 2 drops to smoothen out the curve.

Personally I commit to Killing Edge in Zendo lists since you can defensive play minions and threaten large amounts of damage. Zendo into KE also often ends games on the spot.

PS: While maybe not intended, Hamon is actually a brilliant call atm as it survives both Thunderhorn and Lost in the Desert turns.

First, I believe MDS is great card, but @alplod is right, only if you have backstab minions. When you took out Katara and Bandit, MDS if became less value but even so is still great because of Flamewreath combos.

I don’t really agree with azure herald in this deck because you really want to be controlling the board with your minions, not healing your general and stalling until late game which is what herald is used for but mystic is great as I mentioned before. Even if you don’t like Katara, I would at least STRONGLY recommend you put Bandit back in as it can be great dispel bait and if your opponent cannot get rid of it, it can give you lots of draw which is OP when playing against another Songhai player.

I don’t think I need to say anything about that Primus Fist…

Gotatsu is amazing in this deck for 4 reasons:

  1. Can ping
  2. Can trigger pando for AoE ping
  3. Can trigger Fox for automatic draw and if your opponent has a 1 attack minion on the field you can get 3 draws total
  4. Can replace itself
    Can’t really recommend it enough.

I think @alplod can explained it indirectly when he said:

That’s the reason why I don’t like Protocol as well as Killing Edge and inner focus among other cards is because they are combo pieces and if a deck decides to play combo pieces like that it must have reliable draw which this deck doesn’t have. Maybe killing edge because as @eurasianjay mentioned it really does finish games out especially with sunsteel, Hamon, and Zendo but if you do include it you should really have katara and Bandit back for the possibility of extra draw which would be great.

You can try to get by without Painter, but I really believe that he makes such a huge difference. I can’t tell you how many games I had where the opponent coughsMagmarcoughs had me cornered with multiple minions coughsLavaslashercoughs and then I pull out a Painter and wipe his board completely with Pandos. The satisfaction…If you can’t afford it, however, then its understandable, but I really can’t think of anyway to replace him or compensate for him, not even 3 of OBS AND Bamboozle would do it.

I think besides from that, everyone else said what I was already thinking.

Considering Smash has multiple top 50 showings with midrange lists with zero backstab minions and does run MDS, I’m going to have to disagree here.

The notion that you should only entertain MDS when you also run Backstab focused minions is frankly absurd. If anything it’s Juxtaposition that is the core card when running those minions and Juxtaposition is simply worse than MDS in this type of shell.

You’re right. Now that I think about it the card has actually saved me a couple of times when I had to transport my Zendo to the opposite side of the board where my opponent was running and there is some great value in prolonging Fox’s life.

Damn it! Forgive me my Lord for foolishness, I ask our God Zendo for mercy too.

@phoenixtoasches Your comment about the primus fist is too vague, I don’t really know what you’re getting at, although it sounds like you’re implying it’s a bad idea here. I just stuck it in because I ran out of healing two-drops (not counting rescue-RX) and wanted a seventh turn-one play that wasn’t a backstabber or Chakri avatar.

@eurasianjay @alplod @pfcmickey Now that I have everyone’s attention…

So, it sounds like mist dragon seal and gotatsu need to go back into this deck. What about dropping bamboozle (a moment of silence…), and one each of hamon bladeseeker, sunsteel defender and battle panddo? That gets me three ninja stars and three MDS.

And for my seven turn-one plays, people don’t seem to be loving the azure heralds, so since we’re getting MDS back, how about three scroll bandits and two kataras, and two healing mystics for wringing extra phoenix fires out of my lantern foxes?

Lastly, assuming the above, would it be worth it to go down to two juxtapositions to get back a dropped panddo/funsteal/bladeseeker, and if so, which one?

What do you guys think about this midrange deck by @kingw?

The thread: Looking for good decks

I want to try it, but this deck looks like it could lose easily to swarm and obylsks.

I tried it couple of weeks ago and got very bad time with it.
Maybe I didn’t pilot it as planed but most of the time ended with a lot of 8g in hand, rarely managed to set a board and ended most of the time reacting to my opponent than building anything.
Really had a hard time to catch the “tempo”.
Side note : it was at this time where half of the ladder was playing Saurian/Rebuks Cancer before patch.

Did it need more removal or maybe more board presence?

If so, maybe you can remove the 8g’s completely leaving only wildfire, and also remove a Zendo and Geomancer for more of whatever is required.

Don’t really know if mid-range/burn deck is even viable though.

Maybe you should give it a try now that the “cancer has been cured”

I won’t, cause I stopped laddering when Frostfire Mode was released the same day :stuck_out_tongue:

Same for me. Met it on ladder several times previous season and always decimated it, even with meme decks. Looks like only Jay and Onyx can play such deck properly.

Bummer, trying to find a good midrange deck that can deal with the amount of control and dispel present in the ladder, but to no avail. Was hoping maybe this hybrid burn deck could finish games faster than dispel could without being a full-on mantrahai.

I think I saw either TacticalGmr or tm25md play this deck (probably Tactical) to a small success.

It’s on YouTube somewhere, maybe it’ll help you to pilot it better. I just don’t like the idea of it

Yeah, it’s here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f2BDFthTcE

I watched almost the whole thing and was triggered so many times by the cheapness of Magmar, I feel for you @tacticalgmr. Feels like every faction has cheap decks.

Ahem, I have calmed down, but still believe all the mentioned cards need nerfs. They are not currenly distorting the meta, but are still too cheap.

Does anybody where this is from and what it is? I found it while searching for duelyst memes.

Eight Gates is pretty hard to play as it is, my midrange hodge-podge version of it is probably harder to get a handle on. I actually went on a straight 7 game losing streak when I was making the deck, but I stuck with it because I knew the concept could work.

My results after refining the deck were a lot better. No concrete stats but easily about 65-70% WR in S-Rank with it. Also the deck has a ridiculously fantastic matchup against swarm. Between 5 AoE cards (Battle Panddo played in the back is practically an instant win) and their lack of hard removal for the deck’s threats (usually 3x Ritual Banishing at most, usually no hard removal in Swarm Brome, etc) it’s easy money.

Not a deck to be played without a lot of attentiveness at any rate.

Hey, it’s you! Do you think the mid-range deck you posted in July-ish is still viable in today’s meta? I use that a lot as a template when trying to make variations for match-ups against Magmar and Vanar with all their removal.

Also, do you have any general advice when playing midrange against Magmar? I find most of the time that conceding automatically saves me a huge headache since they just remove everything all the while the general is building a board with slasher and pumping his attack for the kill.

The wiki has this deck listed under its guides section: https://duelyst.gamepedia.com/Guides#Decklists

surprised nobody put mantra down. Saurian nerf really helped it.

current list. Less obs because everyone is running smaller stuff which dies to chip. Even slasher ain’t worth an obs often.
