being stuck in gold on day 2 can be seen as a normal thing. Some people are really stressed out at that time and use their nastiest decks.
Sentinel Swarm: Abyssian deck build
Looks solid, I’m going to try it and maybe tune for my needs.
Probably +1 Variax and ramp just in case.
Here’s something quick and dirty I threw together.
Hope you already have at least some of this. I tried to keep the spirit cost very low. I bet this’ll work at least decently in Gold, but no promises.
Two EMP’s as insurance, lots of healing, lots of removal if you count ephemeral shrouds/repulsor beasts/daemonic lures/dancing blades as removal, decent number of cycles. Azure horn shamans are a star for Maehv, basically a three-mana 4/8. Dark transformation makes for a great play at six mana if your bloodbound spell is ready, just blow away something that needs to die and feed the leftover wraithling to malice to spit out a husk.
If you had them, I’d say drop the dancing blades and a repulsor beast to fit three bloodbound mentors, they’re great minions in general and can be stuffed into a lot of decks. They’re a neutral, but also epic, so that’d be another thousand spirit and change to make them.
Great budget deck, although I disagree about using Mentors with Maehv. Eats away your health too fast.
That’s the beauty of bloodbound mentors. You can cycle away the spells it gives you and just treat it as straight draw. I’d keep one extra copy of malice in hand early on for turns when you’d like to use it but can’t, and cycle out any others you get for real cards. If you reach late game, he lets you draw up a storm if not removed, also. Plus he’s a 3/4 with a good ability for three mana, he’s just good on general principle.
And what’s two extra lost health to turn that used-up ephemeral shroud into a husk, or drop and pop a gnasher at just the right time for massive AoE and a threat to boot?
Edit: Plus, mentor combos with prophet of the white palm at higher mana levels for multi-malice turns, and there’s plenty of neutral healing available.
When you get to the late game, I’ve found that winning and losing is literally a matter of whether you have those 2-4 more/less health. But fair enough, not saying it’s bad just not my preference
And Mentor is a great card in general! For example my Bbsfest Lilithe basically abuses him
is that maehv deck going to work once they cycle the cards? I wanna build a deck that’s going to last cause who knows when ill get the spirit to build another deck and I wanna be able to play ranked
Also update on the decklist the thread was originally talking about: Bloodtide priestess is gunna be coming out soon. I find that I end up cycling her out of my hand most of the time and she is too high a mana cost for her effect when dispel is so popular. The sentinels i find i always summon over her and i only ever really use her as a win harder card. I’ll be finding something else to toss in for a spicy tech soon enough.
Yup Priestess is sadly too slow/easily answered most of the time The best replacement is actually the aforementioned Bloodbound Mentor, but it’s an epic.
For the Maehv deck, Gnasher is rotating out as well as Sphere of Darkness.
so are the “meta” decks getting hit by the cycling at all? It seems kind of dumb that abyssian which from what I can tell is already having a rough time is getting crippled(losing power cards they use and losing sphere of darkness draw power WHICH IS GOING TO HURT REALLY BAD) and if the top decks dont get hit what’s the point of them doing it. I’d expect the meta to change if they’re intent on making such big changes to the game.
vetruvian loses falcius, vanar loses the ability to combo aspect of shimzar with thunderhorn, songhai loses crescent spear and battle panddo, combo ragnora loses morin-khur. i wouldnt say everyone is hit equally but most archetypes lose at least something.
Edit: There be lots of me repeating things that other people already said in this post. That’s what I get for not reading everything before posting.
@miguelosz Fair enough back. If the tradeoff for the two health is wrecking their boardstate with a gnasher, though, you’re often better off losing the two health. The ephemeral shroud example, sometimes it’ll be better to just keep your health. And you can just cycle the copies. A card in hand is a card in hand.
@judojugs Abyssian will be losing spheres of darkness, and Maehv in particular will be losing gnashers, which is unfortunate for her as those are both auto-three-ofs. Hopefully the generals hit hardest by the rotation will all be getting some good focused support. If you’re worried then I’d hold off playing her until the new expansion hits and we see what cards she gets.
To replace the bloodtide priestesses, take a look at bloodbound mentors. One less mana, one more health, and a great effect that’s a natural combo with the cryptographers you’re already running, and flexible, since you can swarm harder or cycle for pseudodraw. They’re epic, but they’re neutral and so generically good they can go into a lot of decks, so you might consider making them next.
Or you could just replace the priestesses with thunderhorns, which can be thrown into anything and are horrifying with furor chakrams if they work the way I think they do. Can anyone confirm if horns interact with frenzy the way they do with blast? They’re still epic, so either one you pick you’re out a thousand spirit for a full set.
Now that I’m thinking about it, you’ve already got a lot of draw/cycle, so the thunderhorns might actually be the better idea.
I think ima save up for them thunderhorns. It’s also a good counter for mirror match and honestly thunderhorn is a tad broken especially with frenzy(even if it doesn’t work the way it does the attack boost from the chakrams is worth it in and of itself)
It does work with frenzy. If he hits 3 minions, he does his effect 3 times. One of the reasons why blast Thunderhorn is so popular in Vetruvian.
Sunset Paragon and Frostbone Naga are the closest substitutions for Gnasher and they won’t rootate out. However paragon is a 5 mana epic, and Naga is strictly worse than gnasher in maehv. You may consider them though.
