I decided to invest a whole bunch of spirit into Abyssian swarm. Which is all fun and games until you realize that apparently every single faction has a way to out all of the plays you could possibly do. Any boards I put up are generally taken care of with no more than 3 mana when it took far more to put up the boards. I’m looking for a way to play abyssian that I could feel comfortable taking into ranked
Most viable (affordable) Abyssian build?
went through all the abyss/neutral commons and these are the ones you should grab
furosa + cryptographer is cheap and super good
shiro puppy dragon is a good budget choice
replicant isnt bad, but you need 3 in your deck to make it worthwhile
redsteel minos is decent with cryptographer
blaze hound or sojourner can work for draw
bound tormentor is the best sentinel
dancing blades is just a good 5 drop
Abyssian Swarm isn’t the best deck by a long shot, considering the predictability of it and how easy it is to clear 1/1s. Magmar just plasma storm’s or Makantors and you’re gone, Vet just Bone Swarms and LitD, and there goes both your HP AND board, Vanar has Frostburn, and even without that, you’re doing them a favour with those 1/1s for Mana deathgrip, Lyonar has Tempest, and maybe even Holy Immo, and let’s please not talk about Songhai
What @d5dr4k3 said, more or less. Abyssian swarm isn’t top tier, and is hard to play well. There are too many ways to counter it. If you want to keep trying, I’d go through the Abyssian decklists on the forum and find some recent non-budget builds that people have experienced success with, and work toward one of those. Here’s a batch of Lilithe decks courtesy of @deathsadvocate (a leading name in deckbuilding), some swarmy or at least featuring a few swarm cards. DeathsAdvocate’s Master Thread: Immortal Vanguard
I’d also like to point out Sarlac the Eternal. With this guy you always have someone on board…until it is dispelled or transformed. Was a staple in Abyssian long time ago, but is still relevant.
Sarlac has descended to memes, but He’s still way too fun with consuming rebirth
Not really. He can be worthwhile in midrange Lilithe decks (which are not very strong atm), but not essential. Being a legendary doesn’t make him more popular also. But he is good. Not awesome, just good.
Has anyone tried a budget variant for hyperswarm? Soulshatter Pact, Void Steal and Furor Chakram for finishers, and rest of the deck could be pretty cheap. It might work ok, maybe not easy s-rank material but ok.
The problem with chakram is that it’s too slow for hyperswarm IMO. In (nonbudget) hyperswarm you may play soulshatter+DFC on 5 mana which can OTK an opponent outright. Playing chakram is much less impressive.
What does DFC stand for. Been trying to decypher it for a minute
nvm figured it out. das expensive asf
True. But when, finally, I got 2 copies of it (it’s deathfire crescendo, just in case) my abyssian life became better. Much better.
I wasn’t thinking like 3-of, maybe 2-of that doubles as a removal. But you’re right it slows the deck down a bit, and DFC is strictly better for that reason. Still, I think it has potential.
I firmly dissagree that chakram is to slow for hyper Swarm. And I believe Grimwar is strictly better to crescendo due to how it can help vs AOE. And all three of those are better then soul shatter and the like.
I have a decent budget guide here:
But Abyss is notorious for its polarized matchups and or being the most expensive faction. All swarm suffers from the same issue of AOE? Yes, I probably loose, No? I probably win.
