Immortal Vanguard - Lyonar Ironcliffe Monument

Well, as long as all the information players need to understand how it things work is actually in the game when the card comes ou–oh wait, forget I brought that up .

I’d just hate this to be yet another “yeah there’s no way for you to know this outside of trial and error or hearing it from someone in the know” case to add to one of several community FAQ threads. I happen to know the rule is that OG’s trigger before the minion is actually summoned, but I shouldn’t have needed to hear that from another player. At that point the “discoverability” meme overreaches into “yeah we just couldn’t be bothered to tell players about how our game works” territory.

But far be it for me to get in the way of some good ol’fashioned hype-building, I just started typing and suddenly there’s a paragraph. I honestly don’t mind us getting surprised initially at all .

I hate inroncliffs as they are now you telling me I can see even more of these walking divine bond targets… It’s a dark day indeed

If you steal a variax it’s gotta be Vanar so they can return it to the hand, but only Vet can steal minions. How exactly do you get variax to opening gambit as a non abyssian general?

This + Brome = INFINITY IRONCLIFFE

Truly the cliffe to end all cliffes

Given how opening gambits trigger before they enter the battlefield, you will take control of the Monument before Grapnel enters. Grapnel will transform into an Ironcliffe Guardian.

In addition to what @zerounderscoreou said, Vanar can use Zenrui with Polarity/Enfeeble to then return to hand with Hailstone Prison.

Vet can also return cards to hand, thanks to Sandswirl Reader. Pair with any sabovet combo and you have Variax in Vetruvian!

You guys are overrating this card, it’s incredibly slow. But it does look strong, and fun

Variax will give you Lilithe’s awesome bbs by the way if you’re new here and weren’t around when we were testing that stuff.

I also can’t believe you guys forgot you can Joseki a Variax

I’d say you’re underrating it if you take into account the strength Aegis Barrier and provoke minions will have in protecting it.

How are you going to play Aegis AND a provoke AND the minion all at once? That’s an expensive play, at best it’s 6 mana with Brome bbs and even then the provoke is a 1/2, not to mention people will be running build counters like Nightsorrow/Lavaslasher/Makantor/Zenrui/Grapple, AND you have two turns to get rid of it.

And even then you can remove/play spells on it after it’s built, since the transform will remove the Aegis effect (not that dealing with a few Ironcliffes will be easy unless you have Plasma).

I’m not saying it’s bad, I’m just saying it’s not anything to start crying over.

You forget we had The Rift mode when Duelyst turned 1 year old, which allowed you to pick any General, but play with any faction cards.

(And there’s also really odd cards like Joseki, Vanar can use Polarity on a damaged Variax and then Zen’Rui + Hailstone, Vetruvian can just use one of their many mind controls + Sandswirl Reader, etc)

But now we’re getting off-topic. Back to the Monument!

What’s the new maximum amount of Ironcliffes we can summon (don’t forget Keeper of the Vale, Vale Ascension, and Ironcliffe Hearts)?

Zenrui enfeeble hail stone. I guess I’ll have to try that one in the sandbox.

Like we said, infinity with this and Brome.

Without this, its about (3 Ironcliffe, 3 Heart, 6 Spell Recursion, 6 Revives + RNG from L’kian and additional revives from Zurael) 18+ Ironcliffe Guardians

You only need it for one turn, and you’ll have full mana to bust out your minions when you do (since it already started building a couple turns ago)

Are there ways to answer this card? Yes. Does it make it bad? I don’t think so. Especially because you can’t dispel a transformed minion, making any that you bright out a bunch of 3/10’s (blessed be plasma storm)

Don’t forget Keeper and spell recursion minions (Loreweaver, Alcuin).

Seedy made a 9-Iron deck with Ironcliffes/Ironcliffe Heart/Keeper that was pretty damn strong, but it was followed quickly by a version designed to create as many as possible (I think the record is 12 or so)

I’m making no argument that it’s bad, I’m literally just saying we shouldn’t whine about it just yet.

This minion turn 2, followed by provoke minions t3/t4, not all in 1 turn.

Which means you can take advantage of them doing nothing T2, gaining immense board advantage or just removing the structure.

WHY-Y-Y is it so uninteresting(
I was already thinking how to do it with Songhai (remembered about Joseki too) and what would happen if I awesomify Phoenix Fire/Tempest by copying Geomancer/Sunbreaker with Bound Tormentor.

Also this card looks like Surgeforger got… a sword in the face.

Who’s whining? The general consensus is that people think this is really cool and might see competitive play, not that it’s broken or unfun.
