I just disenchanted all non-Standard cards

… and I’m sitting on top of a mountain of spirit

It was just too annoying to always see non-Standard cards by default when building new decks. What is still annoying is that I’m going to get additional non-Standard cards as daily cards and end of season rewards.

So, let me ask this again and let’s see if we are more lucky this time

  1. Please make Standard cards the default view in collection
  2. Please only reward Standard cards as daily cards and end of season rewards

These fixes are extremely simple, yet incredibly useful in terms of usability

Very simple quality of life change; I fully approve.

I’ve seen this suggested a lot of times, and it would be an excellent option. But I can also see why they haven’t…

Picture the following scenario:
A brand new player starts playing, ends up purchasing a couple orbs from each expansion. They open up their Shim’zar orbs and get some cool-looking Legendary. Excited, they go to their collection to try to put it in a deck, but… it’s not there! They look through their whole collection 3 times, thinking they somehow missed it, but nope - totally absent. Feeling gutted and cheated, they file a bug report over their “disappeared” card and set the game aside. It never occurs to them to click on the weird little gear icon that they assume opens the options menu, and they’re a bit turned off the game by the whole experience.

I mean, there’s most likely steps they could take to make this scenario NOT happen, but if they just changed the default and nothing else it absolutely would. So it’s not a change they can make super-lightly.

What about asking if you want a non-standard or standard only deck when you hit the “new deck” button?

Well, to begin with I think Shimzar orbs should be clearly marked as non-Standard, so that this scenario is more unlikely to happen. Moreover, I guess it’s more confusing for new players to find in their collection cards they cannot use in ranked format, which is the natural choice for many players. Of course no choice which downright excludes cards from the collection is going to be perfect, but let’s try to be realistic: most players are interested in the Standard format, which is the most supported mode as the name suggest.

@humancalc’s suggestion looks very sensible and I like it a lot. However, no matter which choice is taken, something should be done to address this…

Why my decks with the new cards are not able to be used on Season Ledder?
Just appear to choose 2 old decks. I though that is an simple bug with old decks, so a I created a new one of Vanar, and dont work too. I just can use basic decks that the game already prepare and this 2 old decks. Help me pls

That’s not to say that your hypothetical scenario isn’t worth considering but the above quotes are real situations from Duelyst’s steam forum.

IIRC, there is a delay for new players before they can build their own decks, with some tutorial / explanation stuff. Adding a short explanation to that (e.g. when first opening the Collection) about the cogwheel and filters (as well as the difference between standard and unlimited) would be ideal.

An option in setting (something along “Default Filters in Collection Screen”) would be the best of two worlds.

I agree with @DKFlamey.

In the past the collection manager saved your settings, so we had posts like “The game deleted some of my cards!! I can’t find them anywhere!”. So they changed it to a default setting.

I also see the problems with the system right now but changing the default setting is not the answer.

I agree with @solonafir. Just make a toggle in the options that can set what you want to be the default. Seems like that would solve this issue without incident, and if there needs to be some sort of tutorial to make things clear to new players, everything should basically be fine (and regardless, if the option is apparent enough, it will easily be ‘discoverable,’ as they say).

Clearly, people have concern over the current setup, but there are also plenty of people who would prefer having their whole collection always available or those (newer players) would not realize they had some of the non-standard cards in their collection (not to mention all the cards removed from the core set that are now only craftable…). Therefore, the best solution should be one that let’s the players decide for their own preferences, or at least some way to be presented with the choice, say, when going into your collection (for the first time in a given play session, or however that would work out).

Also, speaking to @boronian, I think being able to change the default can work so long as new players are well informed and the toggle, option, or whatever the final form of changing the (default) view between standard and all cards is clear and accessible (perhaps right next to the search you can click between standard and all cards, either in addition to being able to change the default or as the solution itself, since of all the thing one would narrow the collection by that one can do already, standard <~> all cards seems important enough to warrant a position right on the collection page without needing to open another menu).

My question is that do non standard cards ever come back to rotation at a certain period of time or are they gone forever in ranked?

Gone forever so new players dont have to learn 20,000 cards

Nope but they have said that they will do reprint sets.
