How to get the game we love to grow

How should we get duelyst to become more popular? A question we have all asked before, and a difficult one. Lets discuss what CPG should and could do to
Promote this epic underrated game!

but everyone knows grow is terrible

I mean no offense, but the marketing team is pretty much non-existent. This game is doing pretty well appealing to its existing player base but is failing miserably in expanding it. I wish we had referral events in which we can be incentivized for recommending this game to others. Such an event won’t take too many resources to execute either.

Isn’t there already a referral system (kinda)? Where someone can type in the username of the person somewhere in-game (or when first starting) and the new player gets 100g. While the referrer gets rewards based on where the new player finishes each season.

To be fair the only thing Duelyst needs to grow more in terms of players is a bit of advertising. But with the new expansion and bugs that are around. Its not the best time to do that until those bugs are sorted.

I think a lack of a marketing team makes it all the more important for us to give the existing devs advice, or to bandai namco.
If our individual voices dont ring out, us together will

From what I understand, even a popular opinion won’t help. Hell, with a major discussion on this forum, we only succeeded in changing a card’s text, and that was mainly due to the assistance of the illustrious ThanatosNoa, no doubt.
I do believe there is a certain divide between the community’s power and the developers’ decisions. Presumably an even greater one between as and Bandai Namco, given the second-hand nature of our connection with them.

Still, might just be me being cynical and/or naive.

I never realized. Yet, I think just 100 gold isn’t enough. An exclusive card back or a crate would be a better incentive. Besides, the fact that I was unaware of this function does say something; it should be advertised better.

Simple, advertise it.

Pretty much anything would make it grow.

Yep, advertise, even on youtube, or some minimal advertisement will do.

The mobile version would exponentially increase the target audience range for this game. Too bad it’s more elusive than an Astral Crusader on the ladder.

These merely fictional suggestions…or do they?

  • Change this game’s engine to Unity (can cross-platform, enable mobile and increase Duelyst design options)
  • Advertisements (Merchandises, video games conventions, devs interviews/podcast, new youtube videos?,novel-based Duelyst?)
  • In-game contents (Event only cosmetics, moar skins/maps/emotes/graphics, restructure diamonds values,video-base lore?)
  • Strategic Partnership (Twitch - adverts and drops, Blizzard - Tourney? XD, PCGamers - interviews ect, Others - Mechandises, Elon Musk - Moar money for space race Kappa)

The starting page of Duelyst also should get a new video… the current one has those derpy flat deformations which shine a REALLX bad light on the pixel art.
Like… how about a mix between epic battle scenes with mechanics like Backstab and Grow and Trial completion visualized combined with actual good looking ingame scenes…

I would take any animated picture.

The same Video could be used as a Youtube Ad…

Nice thread loliconartist… I am so proud of you ^owo^

Let’s be realistic: mobile is not coming anytime soon. Advertisement is certainly an important direction to pursue, but I think it would be useless if the developers are not more careful in dealing with a few things.

Examples include:

  1. Having a more updated website and card database
  2. Quickly reacting to bugs
  3. Implementing one of the tons of QoL changes suggested here in the forums

I don’t want to sound brutal, but sometimes it seems to me that the developers are not really focused on their own game. We just got an exciting new expansion and it would be a great moment to push the game, but it doesn’t seem this is happening at all…

I’ll be equally brutal.

Sometimes I don’t think players realize how small of a fish their game is in a otherwise very big pond.

Interviews? PC gamer spreads? YouTube adds? I love this game as much as most of you, but it’s a small indie web game with no name recognition being dwarfed by a sea of stronger funded competitors.

Still, I think (1) and (3) are so quick to solve that the “small team” argument is not a good one. Admittedly (2) requires more work, which might be hard for an indie game, but game-breaking bugs cost matches and players, so it’s not really a choice.

I don’t want to sound mean or ungrateful, I have spent around 400 hours in the game and I enjoy it. But sometimes the cost difference between an excellent product and a good product is really small…

I guess the biggest reason why we are all saying this now is because of the recent departures of the developers of the game, putting the game’s future in question. A lot of us are big fans of the game, despite how small the development team is. And anything that threatens the game’s future puts a lot of anxiety into our minds.

On the bright side, at least we know that we have quite a bit of dedication for the game in comparison to other games like Hearthstone…

Has anyone suggested bringing in CP Fletcher?

He seems to be a real scholar on this issue.

In that case feel free to put my username in there for your free 100g

I reccomend the reccomendation service still work after a ranked game

Yeah, CP actually called up a buncho hs pros to check out this game, and we got a great spike o players. I feel like we kinda need a mobile version of dooly to compete with hearthstone and crap. Remember, dooly has a better f2p model than most all other card games, especially the money guzzling hearthstone. It also has an usp in its awesome positioning board. All we need to crush hs is ads and mobile
