For those Otakus out there

HAI EVERYONE

Ok so I’m trying to get to know people better round here, and the first place I went was @alplod’s thread on getting to know people:

https://forums.duelyst.com/t/get-to-know-each-other/12670/91

BUT AFTER THAT I realised that there may be a community within this wonderful Duelyst community, and I wanted to let ALL THE ANIME FANS OUT THERE congregate onto this thread!

So to everyone who loves all things Japanese, come over! Get to know all the other Otakus in this community, discuss Anime, Manga, Light Novels, probably even give recommendations and updates if you want on new or good anime! This thread is just for people to find their inner W33B, and come together to have fun!

(I know i sound overly excited but please bear with me I’ve been waiting for this opportunity my whole life)

Who’s waiting for No game No life season 2?

Eh, I wouldn’t call myself a weeb or otaku, but I do appreciate a lot of anime. I don’t super nerd out about shows and I especially hate any super tropey or fanservicey shows. Some friends of mine got my into watching it a few years back and I’ve seen a lot of shows since. Some together with friends, some alone to pass time. The list is actually really long now.

I may post my list if I feel like it.

I’m a otaku, but I can’t devote much time into it. It’s hard to balance personal studies, gaming, and a hundred other hobbies all in one life. Besides, I didn’t watch any stereotypical “mainstream” anime yet, so it’s difficult to have relevant discussions with anyone at this point.

The only thing I’d want more than that is more spice and wolf seasons, which isn’t happening. I really hope NGNL gets its second season.

Madoka Magica season 2 anyone? :lizard:

Heard they were making a movie instead of a new season of NGNL…

Isn’t there already a movie? I heard it’s decent.

I can’t consider myself a fan of anime, it’s just smth I watch as well as plenty of other movies.

I’m however a fan of Haruhi Sudzumia series in case you haven’t noticed already. Also I like Durarara, Deathnote, Fate series (SN, UBW and Zero, not the shit happened recently, don’t remember the name). I have a special place in my heart for Druaga, since it was the first nonendless fantasy anime I watched.

I don’t appreciate Eva. Please, don’t kill me.

But I do like Wakfu ( was dissapointed by OVA and season 3 however) and the Last Airbender ( not Korra, nonono…) . I guess I’d add them to the list in spite of them being non Japanese, they are just that good.

haven’t watched an anime because I procrastinate anything and everything so where should I start?

May I make recommendations? My tastes aren’t generic, but maybe you’ll like them.

go ahead, that is what I’m here for.

Bungou Stray Dogs? It has a second season, and a movie is coming out next year. A fast pace and cool animations are some of it’s redeeming factors.

Eyyy, I guess I’m up.

Ok something mainstream would probably be a good starting point, and something that will actually set a good standard for anime while not leaning back on normal cliches…

Boku no Hero Academia? I’m in looooove with the series and there’s a third season coming out next year. BTW, do go read the manga, it’s basically the same thing as the anime just that it’s abit further into the story than the anime

Have a genre preference?

I read the manga. As much as I enjoy it, I don’t think I’ll be watching the anime becasue it won’t be any different.

it hasn’t developed as I don’t watch anything.

Ok here’s my small starter pack:

For thrillers, Death Note. While it has some flaws, it’s still imo overall a great series and a good anime starting point for many, this is where I started my journey as well.

For fantasy/horror, Attack on Titan. Very popular, and for a good reason. Not for “good feels” though.

For adventure, Hunter x Hunter. This is just an amazing shonen (the most popular anime genre, you probably know series like Dragon Ball or Naruto). Awesome characters, interesting story. It’s quite long though.

For movies, anything Ghibli. Spirited Away would be a good starting point imo, although I don’t consider it to be a huge masterpiece.

The fact that nobody’s mentioned MahoYome here yet disturbs me. Best anime I’ve seen recently imho.

In all seriousness, @epicflygon I recommend one punch man. It’s a great one, they should have made more.
