Faction Staples for Newer Players (Updated 12/24/17)

I remember all grandmasters including Variax will be staying so you have one more thing to use creep for.

When I build Magmar decks, I immediately add 3 Ragebinder, 3 Lavaslasher and 3 Makantor, so maybe I should cut the staples down to those. But for now, the people have spoken, so I’ll add it

Added a 4 mana neutral minion staple slot, debating whether or not to add ‘neutral removal’ with BTA/DBlades/Pushdog.

do we know if spirit refunds are planned if there is no wild format?

Would REALLY love to craft some more for my creep deck but don’t want to totally burn my very finite collection of spirit

We don’t know if there will be a wild format or not yet since we have only been promised new game modes (which could be anything from the Rift to a Frostfire Styled mode) in which we can use rotated cards:

I am not 100% sure, but I think it is safe to assume there will be no full value spirit refund.

Progenitor will be Magmar or Ragnora Staple… Mark my words!

I wouldn’t say Cryptographer is a Ragnora Staple. You don’t need the extra Ripper eggs as they are very vulnerable. Ragnora is better off using her eggs just from the BBS without having to spam it. Unlike in Vaath the weak Crypto body matters in Rag and drags the team down. (I play a Rag game with sticky minions that uses the combo to finish the opponent this may differ from the netdecked builds that center more around the Combo with Inceptor and Crypto but I think Morin Kuhr and Eggmorph is enough to pull it off.) In my opinion my way to build is more value oriented and therefore consistent. Watch your gameplay and look how often you actually need the Cryptographer Egg. If you actually use it for a turn 2-3 kill… fine. But what use of it do you have at the other times?

My midrange centric view on Rag might also explain why I’d consider Raptyr as a Ragnora staple.

I consider Raptyr to be more of a personal staple, but you could be right about Cryptographer.

  • Cryptographer is a Ragnora staple.
  • Cryptographer is NOT a Ragnora staple.

cryptographer isnt a ragnora staple, but it IS a lilithe, vaath, and faie (vanar?) staple

i added the vanar? for the sake of kara who can make use of it quite well

maehv is losing prophet  on rotation
RIP :skull:

it’s not staple in illena as her bbs is not proactive enough for it.

And Crypto is a staple In Kara.

I have it for Lilithe and Faie under swarm and BBS respectively, although I would absolutely agree it’s staple for both generals I don’t have general staples for those two.

Yeah the loss of Prophet and Gnasher will really hurt, not sure what I’ll do with the staple list then.

Lol definitely not. Vanar’s lack of healing and draw combined with their plethora of good two drops means Crypto is only a staple in Faie, and only because it’s a spell proc, face damage and surprise AoE all at once, whereas in Kara it can be useless.

also… no wallnar staples?

I haven’t seen a single wallnar on ladder or in casual since xpack/Ghost Seraphim nerf. I think it kinda split into Faie and Vespyr Kara. But I could add it if you like.

Really? I feel being able to spam the eggs puts on alot of pressure onto the opponents. Imagine this board state. You’re playing against a Vaath, who has one natural selection in hand and you have a lone lavaslasher on the board. If you don’t have your BBS, well, that lasher is getting taken right off the board. However, if you DO, placing that egg just out of reach of the Vaath completely negates the natural selection on the lasher, and that egg NEEDS to be taken off the board. It’s another target to soak up removal, and is a very cheap alternative that doesn’t use up your hand. The Ripper eggs may not have a large impact while on the board, but the beauty of it is that it is still a very high priority target for the duration it is on the board. It’s too valuable to hatch, and I’ve seen people even blood of air it if they really have no other removal spells, and that blood of air could even cost them the game if you pull out a Juggernaut they have no response to. The Ripper egg is too much of an asset to casually place it down when you have the chance, and cryptographer really helps with keeping an egg on the board at all times.

I agree. In general, a 1 Mana 3/1 celerity rebirth is just a phenomenal card, even if it takes a turn to hatch. Skorn and BTA aren’t meta rn.

I mean, even without having a turn to hatch, having the ability to deal 14 damage on a 5 mana combo is just flat insane

BTA is not meta? I see that one all the time. Skorn also but it is not as common as BTA.

Yes this guide is pretty useful,With slight tweak in how it is step up.You can turn it into a what play around on this turn guide.
