Expensive Lyonar swarm

I wanted to make a lyonar swarm deck without any spirit restrictions, and this is what I came up with - basically lots of summoning + Auroara is the main tactic, and if all else fails, we have the divine bond and ironcliffe heart. The small number of minions is because almost every minion summons some more minions.

It’s not pure swarm, but rather designed so that it has 2 options.

The deck isn’t tested yet because it’s expensive as balls.

Thoughts? Opinions?

You forgot to attach the decklist?

Hey there @chachkalica, I’m afraid I have a lot of feedback to give because I fear your concept is suffering quite the identity crisis.

First off, you’re probably not aware that CPG is preparing to rotate the Denizens of Shim’Zar expansion out of the standard game format, which means that Ironcliffe Heart and Inquisitor Kron will be going away.

Second, a hybrid deck can work, but in your case the elements you’re trying to combine are so different that you’re constantly going to be getting in your own way.

Third, Beam Shock and Black Locust aren’t typically used and don’t really line up with your own approach either, not in the least because Tempest clears Locusts and you don’t have any draw cards (alright, Replicant kinda counts) to support Zyx, Beam Shock and Draining Wave.

If you really want to make an expensive swarm deck I’d recommend going something like this:

And here's the clipboard code

MTo1MSwzOjExMDIyLDM6MTEwODMsMzoxMTA5OCwzOjE5MDM4LDM6MTExMjYsMzozNCwzOjQwLDM6MjAyNzQsMzoyMDMxNywzOjEwMDE2LDM6MzAwMDEsMzo0OCwzOjIwMDY3

Very expensive but also very streamlined to do one thing and do it well. If you really want to hybridize a bit you can take out a Repulsor Beast and/or a Congregation to make room for one or two copies of a big bomb (like Prominence).

I hope I didn’t rain on your parade at all.

I see what you’re saying with the identity crysis, I admit that some of the cards were thrown in without much thought

Eh, not really, but u bring up some interesting things that I didn’t know, being new to duelyst and all

What’s up with the rotation of cards? When is it and why is it happening? Will there be other game formats for laddering?

Enjoy getting acquainted with the game, there’s a lot to learn!

On the rotation: CPG hasn’t announced a specific date for when it’ll happen but the new expansion should be dropping within the next few weeks and we’re expecting Denizens of Shim’Zar to rotate out when the new expansion goes live. They said there’ll be a format where you can play all the cards regardless of rotation but I don’t think there’s any more information out there.

For now, it’s best to not spend your resources on Shim’Zar Orbs and cards  . If you’re looking for help and advice to make decks you actually have the cards for, don’t hesitate to drop a post here or on the Duelyst Reddit or Discord (I don’t know how many people are regularly online because I don’t go there myself).

Hey @chachkalica! Welcome. I hope you enjoy your stay.

Since @thematsjo already covered what you should do instead, I’ll just go over which of these cards are newbie traps. Please don’t take any of this as me looking down on you, I’d hate for you to save up a ton of spirit to craft bad legendaries. I’ve crafted some legendaries I wish I hadn’t. It does not feel good, let me tell you.

Black locusts are way too fragile for their cost, and never survive long enough to do their thing. Even if you’re able to make a bunch of them somehow, almost all mass removal in the game kills the whole swarm in one shot, particularly homeostatic rebuke, which every Magmar deck runs three of, more or less. Basically, they’re just bad.

Inquisitor Kron is a cool guy and all, but his stats aren’t good enough for cost to use him unless you’re running a dedicated replace deck, and those are mostly just for fun, they’re not high-level competitive.

Prominences are decent, but they don’t get used much at high level as far as I’m aware. I might be wrong on that one, maybe some high-level players swear by them.

Peacekeepers seem amazing but they generally just eat removal. A minion that expensive isn’t playable unless they do something the same turn they’re summoned, like the ever-popular EMP. Which you should own three of if you don’t already, by the way, they’re only rare. Aside from not running peacekeepers, in general you don’t want to run too many cards that are just single copies in your decks, it’s better to run them in twos and threes. I’d only break this rule if I had a very specific reason for running one copy of a card.

Beam shock doesn’t do enough to be worth using up one of the cards in your hand to do it, so it almost never gets used. It’s cool and all, but your deck has to be able to draw like a monster to support it.

Draining wave is rarely used, from what I’ve seen. To make good use of it you’d need a deck that’s either breakneck-speed aggressive, or has a lot of healing.

Divine bond is only good in decks built heavily around divine bond, of which there are plenty, though they’re not currently top-tier.

Holy immolation is freaking amazing and every Lyonar deck that’s not an alabaster titan deck (which can’t run spells at all) runs three. It’s still not as good as Makantor warbeast, unfortunately.

Circle of life is decent, but a lot of high-end Lyonar decks don’t run it. A few do, it depends.

Aperion’s claim is generally seen in Lyonar control decks, as I understand it. I’m not well-informed on this subject.

And to adress one card that isn’t here, but is in @thematsjo’s deck, surgeforger is the heart of all Lyonar swarm. Three surgeforgers and three auroaras are the mandatory starting point for Lyonswarm.

Any card I didn’t mention is decent to good.

Also, general advice, don’t start crafting epics until you’ve got most to all of the good commons and rares in the game, and don’t start crafting legendaries until you’ve got the epics. Here’s some good starting points.
