For those of you having trouble viewing emojis, like I was, there’s an easy way to fix this. Usually this is caused by not having a font that supports emojis. I had this same problem and all of my emojis were showing up as the black and white unicode versions.
To fix this problem you can install twitter’s open source emoji font. Just follow the install directions and make sure that the device you are reading from is set to that font.
