Coldharbour Forge (chat about Mech, Vanar or both)

Warlock’s damage simply means people die quicker. Games end quicker. You therefore are less likely to survive until late game, in this case Titan. Whenever I think aggro deck I think of Warlock.
Lowering health means closer to lethal burst damage. Chances are your opponent has more burst than you and can take better advantage of the lower health. After all your burst consists of Bloodtear :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:.
Warlock’s damage is also good to ping artifacts. Titan has artifacts so…

Wow, come on! Bloodtear Alchemist is now crying.

The thing is that Titan comes with a couple of other deckbuilding requirements beyond the explicit “no spells”:

  1. You have to survive to the lategame in order to play Titan.

This means you need to run a lot of “answer” cards to deal with your opponent’s gameplan, and healing to keep yourself alive. As HumanCalc points out, Warlock works directly against this, which is why no Titan lists run him. DB0t and crew don’t directly address this item, but it’s fine to have some additional threats, so moving on…

  1. You really want to have a nontrivial boardstate the turn you play Titan.

By himself, Titan is a decent minion but not too hard to answer. The majority of the card’s strength comes from how he powers up your whole team. Hence, you want high-toughness minions and/or minions that generate multiple bodies, so as to ensure a lasting board presence.

Here’s where the issue lies. You appear to be thinking of DB0t as fitting into this category, and while that’s kind of the case, he doesn’t really: unlike the examples you mention of Dioltas and Grimes, his spawns are nowhere near guaranteed, and are actually quite difficult to achieve, especially with the limited number of support cards that fit into a Titan list. Moreover, he and his accompanying support minions are all relatively understatted for their costs, especially in the toughness column. Hence, you can find yourself in a situation where you manage to generate multiple mechs and are so far ahead that Titan doesn’t really make a difference, or (more often) your mechs are dealt with and you have no board for Titan.

All of this is certainly not to say you can’t play this version of the deck! Just be aware going in that it’s a meme build, and do it out of a desire to have fun with DB0t (an idea I 100% support), instead of thinking of it as a really viable backup wincon.

I am very clear on this.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to discuss around the concept, I got very good insight about the Titan concept in general along the way.

Old school control

Being very low on the ladder right now I indulge in a no-frills, old school control pleasure.

This list is a platform to dream about unlikely artifact combos, but even if you don’t both Coldbiter and White Asp are fringe but underrated and solid cards on their own (I wouldn’t say the same of Winterblade).

Coldbiter, Hearth Sister, BBS and Aspect of the Mountains provide a large array of crowd control options. Boundless Courage is the early game aggro/cleaner.

The other source of enjoyment is luring your opponent’s minion into an aggressive position, and dispel it along your backline Malicious Wisp. If you feel fancy, you can Mark of Solitude a weeny minion of yours, and dispel it for a surprise 5 damage to the General.

End game is about random arcanysts from Blue Conjurer, and hopefully enough damage output to finish your opponent.

Rushian Roulette

A Vanar meme.

This is mainly about Aspect of Ego on Rushing units. It’s fun, and sometimes you get something truly marvelous out of this silly combo (Rush Sister Taygete!). If you get something with aggressive or normal stats, attack. If you get a value generator, move away. Rushian Roulette!

Hand size sustained by the BBS burn engine, Endless Hunt and some high mana plays.

Moonlit Basilysk is the boring but trusty one-card existential threat, propelled by Hearth Sister as demands Vanar tradition.

Ramp is present but most importantly Malicious Wisp should often provide permanent mana steal thanks to both Aspect of Ego and Aspect of the Mountains.

Sunset Paragon helps complete the area of effect and scalable defense against high-stat monsters.

Expensive 8-mana combos to seal the game:

  1. smol tiger + Wailing Overdrive, that’s 8 damage.
  2. swole tiger + Aspect of Ego, that’s either 5 damage and a healed unit, or ?? damage and LOL. Playing Aspect of Ego on an Alpha has 4 chances out of 5 to give you a minion with better attack. Rushing Indominus, wtf?

At 8150 pesos it’s a steal! Also given that all expensive cards here are staples and you can have no regrets crafting them.

Wow! Such an ingenious idea! I love it.

Too bad there’s only so much rush minions available to Vanar :frowning:

Yep, the only other rush toys are Metaltooth or tiny tokens, but Aspect of Ego on anything less than 4-mana is just absurd.

Yeah, turning “a cub” into rush swamp entangler is not a very efficient use of aspect of ego

Deceptib0t Furnace

Let’s talk Mechs again.

Hatefurnace online can be terrifying. But you need to win fast, so better players than me have used Mandrake to spawn a high-stat, zero cost minion on the same turn as Furnace.

Today I present Deceptib0t as a flashy plan B post trial. With up to 19 damage AOE you can snatch your victory from the jaws of defeat (and shatter all its teeth in a full metal Armageddon).

Weenies provide cheap bodies and are helpers to proc the trial counter ASAP. Spell selection is geared towards progressing the trial. Redsteel Minos, Thraex, Vindicator are the usual bullies of such a deck, tweak your own mix (you might even just win from a lucky, unanswered beefcake). Card draw is reinforced as the deck needs a selection of bodies and spells in hand to keep moving.

Top end is geared towards huge burst damage on the trial turn or the one after.

Teleporting out.

I haven’t played Mechs in a while, but they’re still my favorite tribe and I wanted to bring them back to commemorate the game. Today I’ve been playing different varieties of Starhorn Mechs, and it’s been a blast - I had forgotten how explosive and fun Mechs are in Magmar. Some highlights so far:

  • Seismoid + Kujata to blaze through the deck, summoning super early MECHAZ0Rs and Mandrakes
  • Killing someone with a Worldcore-level Project Omega
  • Easily taking down Flash Wanderer with the help of S.I.L.V.E.R.

As far as I know there’s no in-game lore for the Mechs, but I’d like to believe that they fight on the side of Good. So come: join me in bringing Justice™ to the ladder one last time, in the name of MECHAZ0R!

…with the exception that Z0r is evil. Whenever I play him in Abyss, I get a ton of MechaZ0rs, in other factions never :smiling_imp:

I just played a game with the Decepti deck. My SILVERs had Rush, but were still exhausted. :frowning:

Ah? :frowning: Another buggy interaction?
Disappointed.

if you’re okay with 60-80% of no bugs, try again. it might be the same bug as the vetruvian/abyssian Silver rush decks. (if the silver doesn’t counterattack, that’s a sign that that’s what’s definitely happening)
