Celebrating my first silver victory

Hey guys my name is tom and I just started playing yesterday.
I had heard of duelyst before and read about it on reddit where people were saying they have gotten to gold using only the starter deck and I thought that sounded fun, I never tried getting to higher ranks while using only the basic cards and what I got from packs in other card games so I made an account and started playing yesterday.

Today I entered silver rank and while that is not a huge accomplishment I still feel a little bit of pride and wanted to share my joy with you all as it represents my first step in fulfilling my goal of reaching S-rank with my haphazardly stitched together deck.

Congrats on your first silver win!

I looked at your deck, here’s my advice:

Dreamgazer has no place here, skyrock, planar scout, and phalanxar are plain bad, and you should have 1 more ephemeral shroud. You should add Gros and young silithars, maybe primus fists too. Maybe more dancing blades and elucidators aswell?

otherwise solid deck, you seem to understandbasic deckbuilding stuff quite well.

Your curve is very low. You run out of steam too easily. Let’s increase that!

You have too many 2 drops in your deck (and some weird ones).
Let’s cut
-2 Dreamgazers
-2 Planar Scouts
-2 Skyrock Golems
-2 Phalanxar
-1 Effulgent Infusion
-1 Adamantite Claws
-3 Earth Walkers

and add (only basic cards)
+2 Rock Pulverizer (solid 2 drop, provoke)
+2 Vale Hunters (early game threat)
+2 Brightmoss Golems (midgame threat
+2 Stormmetal Golems (late game threat)
+2 Plasma Storms (for removal)
+1 Greater Fortitude
+2 Young Flamewings (for reach)

Hey Tom! Welcome! Tom…@tfoolery361111111…Yeah, I see what you did there, look at me everyone I’m smart.

Alright, so, is your goal to reach S-rank without crafting a single thing? Because if you’re just not willing to spend money, there’s tons of good stuff you can craft for dirt-cheap by breaking down bad cards, or cards from factions you’re not using. Also, if you get more than three copies of a card, you can’t do anything with the extras except break them into spirit. So, question one, are you willing to destroy cards you’re not using to make other cards, and question two, is Magmar the only faction you play?

Have you gathered your freebies? There’s quite a lot of them. Though I suggest you do your referrals while you still can :smiley: Can’t miss out on those orbs!

Congrats! Don’t worry too much about everyone’s deck suggestions, you just started and have barely any cards, and I’m sure youre still figuring out what you want to play :slight_smile:

Jup my goal is to reach S-rank without crafting, I know disenchanting cards and using the spirit to build a deck is way more effective. The only reason I am not is just out of fun and a personal challenge to see how far random stuff from orbs takes me.

As for the factions, I plan on playing all of them, especially as my collection grows and strong faction cards get added to it. I wont commit to one faction until I start crafting at which point I either completed this challenge or have given up.

I already noticed Lyonar has a lot of good basic minions and Vanar has some really decent removal abilities, while songhai relies more on spells. Love to try that out in the near future.

I will try out your suggestions but will probably switch decks when new things get added to my collection. Hope I get some drawing power soon :sweat_smile:

Thanks for the heads up, to bad about the referrals had I known sooner I would have definitely taken advantage of it, oh well. will checks that other stuff out soon though.

If you don’t want to craft you should build a strong core with basic cards for every faction.

Welcome, and congrats on your first step in Duelyst!

Although I think your challenge of not crafting cards is admirable, you may quickly find yourself getting frustrated on your climb to S as you will not have the staple cards that you need to be competitive.

The devs have embraced a design philosophy of each faction having a small number of superior cards, which should be included in almost any deck, and if you rely solely on RNG it may be a long time before you nab those choice cards to really step up your game.

But don’t let me dissuade you, the important thing is you have fun, and welcome! I started with Magmar and never stopped, super fun faction :slight_smile:

If you’re trying to reach S-rank craftless, the best piece of advice I can give you is play a lot in the last few days of the month. All the really good players will already be in S-rank, and thus, out of your way, giving you better odds at hacking through Diamond.

Oh, also, figure out what commons you want the most and open orbs from the expansion pack that has those commons. For example, falciuses and and blood of air are amazing commons for Vetruvian, so open orbs for the appropriate expansions until you’ve got three of each. That sort of thing.

Hey, once you hit S-rank, are you going to start crafting cards? How far do you plan to take the no-crafting thing? Just curious.

I probably start crafting once I hit S-rank depending on the cards I get, but I might just decide to never craft anything. Deck building is pretty fun when you are working around restrictions, makes for some weird builds.

Also I can be quit stubborn so I probably try for at least a year or so and try to see things trough.
I wonder if the upcoming rotation implementation plan will make this challenge harder or easier, time will tell I suppose.

I never made it to S-rank and I am not that interested in it. It involves a lot of grinding :wink:

But just play in which division you want and have fun! Silver is often the most diverse one (from my experience what I see in the game and on streams)
