Howdy!
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted a decklist here. Memes might make a comeback later, but this time it’s more “serious business”. Some people have wondered that Creep Cass might actually be pretty good this meta. I can confirm this, at least for Gold: I just went from rank 8 to 5 in 17 games (out of which I won 14 or 15, one disconnection that I can’t confirm from my reply history) with this variant of what I’d like to call “Casszalea” since it heavily uses Ghost Azalea as a wincon. Didn’t face too many Magmars, so not sure how this would hold up, but I presume it does well especially against Ragnora, only Finality Vaath could be a bigger problem. This is a good old big control list, which felt fun and effective at least to play with. Just one card from the new xpac, sadly.
Without further ado, let’s get into the list:
Some cards (like the removal suite) don’t really need explanation, so I go only through the most important points:
Azure & Rescue-RX
This meta NEEDS healing, unless you’re Shidai or Heavy Aggro. And these two cards are just the ones suited for getting you to those sweet 7-8 mana marks more or less alive. RX should be placed somewhere in the back, unless you can deny a mana tile with it P2 with just the opposing general on board. People are generally hasty to waste removal on 2-drops, which means that you will most likely get the heal procs.
Ooz
Still good as an opening play. The best early creep generator there is, besides Sphere. Be wary of Thunderhorn later in the game though.
Grincher:
Now this is a dude that would probably be better replaced with something like Reapers. However I wanted to make this an artifact-oriented list, and Grinchie provides some needed draw with a body as well as occasional hilarious artifacts. I somehow got three Pavines in these 17 games, which worked nicely with either Grincher himself or and EMP already on board.
Klaxon:
The real MVP of the deck. It’s surprising how often people don’t have a ready answer for an on-curve Klax, provided that you’ve played some other stuff like 6/6 Juggs previously. Usually I could just provoke everything the opponent had on board on 6 mana, and the games often went in my favor from that.
Juggernaut, Azalea, Obliterate & Variax:
Wincons with multiple uses. Juggernaut provides an annoying body with pseudo-grow for 4 mana, and gets out of control in the late game. Azalea is something that people just don’t see coming, since it’s used so rarely these days. If you’re low on health, you can start running away from the opponent’s general just enough so that if they follow you, the Flower of Death gets some fresh flesh to devour. Obliterate is a one-of, since with this list you only want to use it as an absolute finisher. Variax is just a panic button, in case the game drags really long.
Shadow Nova:
Overwrites other tiles, pings and boosts all your wincons. Situationally very good, that’s why it’s a 2-of.
Mindlathe:
Still somehow manages to surprise people, but maybe it’s just the low rank. You’ll really like to play mind tricks with your general with this deck, and Mindlathe is perfectly suited for surprise removal/attack turns.
GLHF and remember, one fringe deck a day keeps the meta away
