Card Design Contest Jan/Feb: Community Poll

voted for blight bind, its basically a conditional sand trap, but with the guarantee that it will eventually die. besides, we need more board interaction with creep tiles and night fiend isn’t cutting it

voted for frozen resolve because vanar needs more reasons to use infiltrate minions other than snowchaser and crystal cloaker.

@attheedge Are participants really allowed to vote? Like, we can choose to vote for ours only if we wish. I don’t know, it just feels kind of dirty to have that kind of opportunity.

@paralykeet no crow feed is necessary. Brings me back years ago with that anti-smoking commercial, blegh. Thanks though :3

On topic of contest,

Really like Cascading Snowstorm. I dislike Shadowgate and Blightbind because I’m biased against Abyssian, but I have to admit they’re good design (especially Shadowgate). @RyanH @unfortunateinc @eudaimonia I tip my hat sirs (or madams)! :tophat:

Really surprised to see something like Portal Overload and can see heavy abuses to it like Punish, Slo/HI combo or Necrotic Sphere.

Portal Overload or Shield Taunt go!

I’m pretty sure there’s a 0% chance a Lyonar card will win and about a 100% chance a Vetruvian card will win considering the state of the meta right now so I guess that puts my picks on the extreme ends!

Some really cool designs in this selection, kudos to everyone who worked on them!

Yes, participants are allowed to vote but voting for themselves is not allowed! I will update the OP.

I loved Cascading Snowstorm. At 4 mana is a bit expensive, but it’s a great application of positioning to stall games. Also the other cards look cool though: this game needs a constant introduction via expansions of positioning-based effects. The distinctive trait of Duelyst is the board, let’s use it more!

Both @owlington and I submitted designs very similar to Sand Wave on the first day of the contest, Sand Wave was submitted later. What made Sand Wave better than the other two designs? I think Owlington deserved the points because he submitted first. The designs:

Anyway, I think Blightbind is the best design of the options. It gives creep another purpose and makes it a bit riskier to walk into a creep tile. It also might give people a reason to play Darkspine Elemental again.

Im sorry not being salty or anything but i wont be voting for a card that is more or less the exact same as our submissions but combined. While as well being submitted at a later period
Thank you for addresing this @Envest

I found Starblast to be incredibly over powered, so you shouldn’t be surprised that this one isn’t on the list.

As for the other two, well, I didn’t put either on my list because not only were they quite similar, but I felt they lacked design compared to other submissions, since we’ve seen this many times before in the past. Additionally, I found myself shying away from giving credit to a card that is quite similar to another on the list (same with a lot of the creep submissions). Pyrae is a lot more unique and creative than others, I’ll admit.

I believe the other card made the list because it just makes sense, is balanced, and honestly feels like a card CPG could put into the game.

I’m sorry for the frustration over similar submissions, perhaps we should do something about that in the future.

Yay! I made it!

For anyone curious about my card:

The way it works is that you can’t just drop it on a column and deal immediate damage to whoever is on it. If the Snowstorm is dropped ON them, units leaving will take damage. However, when moving with cards like Silhouette Tracer, Mist Walking or Hearth-Sister, the unit will not take damage.

Obviously, this is designed to help Infiltrate. However, this also hurts you and your minions when crossing over, so be wary of friendly fire. This is ideally used when you’re in the middle column of the board, with a couple of Infiltrate minions set up; at 9 mana you can set up the Rhyno + Snowstorm to really lock them in.

The way these Snowstorm tiles are marked will be with a white tile effect (like Shadow Creep) that disappears at the start of your turn, so both sides know clearly where the Snowstorm is.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the support!

You’ve made a huge mistake Aku. You just gave real evidence that mods can open threads. Brace yourself, the necromancers are coming.

It’s happened before.

so apparently everyone wants a conditional necrotic sphere for vet (which honestly feels more vet than abyss anyway)

Necrotic threads suffice for me

The only necromancers here would be the moderators, since we basically have the power of life and death of threads

There was a card named Zealous Charge? Whoops. I should’ve been more careful when naming my card then.
