Hi. We all know – or have at least heard of – Calculator; the Bulwark of Shimzar; the Goliath among Battlepets; RAWR’s role model, but we all know that having any success with this card is nigh impossible; you have to either have hella niche situations and/or get really REALLY lucky with map placement and basically be RNGsus’s most dedicated disciple. Well, one way to make Calculator actually factor into ladder climb calculations is to make it more like Project Ω (Omega); basically, make it so that when you summon Calculator to the field it gains all added stats of previous battlepets played during the game (or ones that are summoned later, assuming that Calculator is still alive). If you feel it makes it better, also give it the keywords of previous battlepets! At this point it basically sounds a bit too awesome, so it would have to become a battlepet in order to balance it out. But still, it can be taken care of with one simple dispel, so that might hurt, but hopefully you can still hurt your enemy even more before it does you.
Calculator, and How to Make it Less Bad
I don’t know what kind of calculator you use but I use a TI-84 plus silver edition.
The fact that it turns into mere 1/1 when dispelled denies it of ever getting played.
Also Casio.
You know what, a TI-84 would actually make a bad-ass card! Also, I don’t actually have Calculator, but I was thinking of one day playing with a battlepet deck, so… yeah; I figured this would be the card to bring it all together, assuming that it gets better.
I know right, I would love an advanced graphing calculator that could figure out when all the planets will allign.
I use both versions of TI-Nspire. Unfortunately, as I enter 11th grade, I won’t be allowed to use the CAS variant anymore except for AP tests. I’ll miss you! 
On topic, if I were to buff Calculator, it would most likely look like this. On a second note, it looks like the Keyword idea was already suggested by the OP. I thought I was pretty original on this one but never mind. 
Then the card you ought to be looking for is zukong (calc is fun though)
