Greetings! Resident red mage here with a short write up of a fun deck I’ve been playing recently
For those of you not familiar with this little gem, the Mirrormeld + Tuskboar combo is a deck that first made a showing when Mirrormeld was released back in the Shimzar expansion last year. Meldcombo or “Baconator” as it would become known as is a aggressive combo deck that looks to chip damage where it can while setting up their Mirrormeld combo, preferably with Tuskboar but often also just with any buffed minion for added value.
It’s important to keep in mind that Mirrormeld spawns a copy of the targeted minion but keeps all stats that minion currently has onto the copy, so using Meld on a Katara that you’ve cast Killing Edge on, for instance, would give you 2 5/5 Katara’s. Similarly using it on Tuskboar would give you another copy with rush and any buffs such as Saberspine seal or permanent effects such as Killing Edge for that turn, often resulting in massive damage turns out of seemingly nowhere and your opponent not quite being sure how he let the game slip away.
Enter Metaltooth
Ever since the nerfs to Saberspine Seal, Mana Vortex and the more recent Inner Focus, not a lot of attention has been given to this style of play, either because of it’s seeming lack of consistency or the advent of a newer combo deck such as the recent Firestorm Mantra deck. Metaltooth provided us with a much needed 2nd Mirrormeld target, as both retain rush as long as you control a second Mech. Be careful though, Metaltooth will lose rush if it’s the only Mech minion on the board and as such works best of you already have another Mech such as Replicant/Tooth or a Killing Edge to combo with to ensure your Metaltooth’s don’t die in combat.
Anyway, without further ado, the decklist:
This is my current list as of my last ladder session and I’m currently 12-2 overall ( should be 13 wins, curse you snags). Credit for the initial shell go to the fantastic nowayitsjay, who also originally popularized the archetype back during shimzar. While by no means claiming it to be a meta slayer, the list is fun, “cheap” and feels competitive enough that I’d confidently recommend it for climbing ladder or just having a good time with a road less traveled.
Replays
Below is just a few of my games to give you a feel for how the deck plays and to showcase some of the crazier burst potentials behind list.
