All my creative love for the Abyss

I’ve played Duelyst on and off for years now, and I have not and probably will never find a deck I like playing more than all the styles that the Abyssians have to offer. The dark tone, the devilish minions, the control they can gain of the board with the right setup that doesn’t have to rely on brute force…I love it all. I make this board to post and discuss any ideas we have for new cards to add to the dark void’s bag o’laughs.

My ideas lately have leaned toward helping an old friend out, the Shadow Creep. A wonderful yet simple mechanic when it was first introduced, shadow creep terrified players in the early days due to the escalating damage as you infected more of the field. Unfortunately, they had to nerf it down to a plain 1 damage (unless you play Abyssal Tormentor) in order to make it balanced enough to deserve more support. Nowadays the Shadow Creep is mediocre at best, in need of some real help to get it back on its feet. So with that, let’s begin:

Abyssal Emissary
3 Mana
1/5 Minion
“After this moves, the space it’s on becomes Shadow Creep.”

Dark Eruption
5 Mana
Spell
“Destroy a friendly minion and turn all spaces around it into Shadow Creep.”

Abyssal Carrier
4 Mana
2/5 Minion
Provoke
“Whenever this damages an enemy, turn enemy’s space becomes Shadow Creep.”

So those are my best ideas so far. Enough support has been given to Shadow Creep for it to have all sorts of fun with effects like teleportation, damage, etc. But in my experience, it doesn’t have enough Shadow Creep generation to make it a realistic threat. These would solve that problem without being too broken. (I specifically chose 5 as Dark Eruption’s cost so that it couldn’t be played in combo with Dark Transformation. Turning your opponent’s best minion into a wraithling then just blowing it up to generate up to 8 Shadow Creeps on top of that would just be beating a dead horse)

WONDERFULL, PERFECT, I LOVED IT. ok calm down. I tottaly agree, creep have good support but not good generation, and lacks aoe removal. And that’s what makes it too slow, you need a bit of luck and some time to really become a threat. I’ve lost uncountable matches just because i didn’t draw that obliterate or didnt had enough creeps to kill general.DEVS PLEASE ADD THESE MINIONS !!!

Yo, you should enter these in the card design contests.

I’m afraid Dark Eruption is broken, even at 5 mana. The idea is cool Nocturne support though. I like your other ideas! Creep is hard to balance right, but currently it’s indeed too weak. My solution would be not to make many more creep cards, but to give Abyss some strong, overall useable 2-4 drops it desperately needs.

Here’s nocturne support.

Abyssal Spyre
6 mana 0/10 structure

Airdrop.
OG: Summon 4 wraithlings on nearby spaces, then summon 4 creep on nearby spaces.

All your wraithlings have +1/+1. Creep damage is doubled.

Note. Spaces without wraithlings are prioritised when summoning creep.

Really we have so little cross archetype synergies. I like the way OP went with sacrifice/creep synergy, swarm/creep should also get some love.

@alplod I love that structure idea. You are absolutely right, there is not enough synergy between the different styles of abyssian. And that Spyre minion would be awesome to play when nocturne is on the field.

@miguelosz Dark Eruption does seem a bit powerful, perhaps 6 would make a better choice for the cost to turn it into more of a mid to late game spell. I designed it with recovery in mind, being able to put a creep presence back on the field if you’re forced to play obliterate early or god forbid the opponent throws down a Lightbender and dispels all the creep you’ve worked so hard to produce.

I thought about Dark Eruption a bit. What of we make it work like Maehv’s AWESOME BBS?

I mean smth like
3 mana

Destroy a friendly minion and summon number of creep equal to minions attack (or health).

It is not very effective early due to weak minions, that balances it somewhat.

Imagine using that + Razercrag Golem on 7 into Obliterate on 8

I think it’s pretty OK.

Or we can use health as trigger. There are plenty of generally useful high health minions though, so I hesitate to suggest that.

This is actually great, some extremely niche minions like Cacophynos or (gasp) Hexclaw might actually see a small bit of play with this.
