Ever since ferocca won the world championships against dragall with all mech decks iv been swapping back and forth between regular decks and a mech deck that i have one on each faction and i cant help but feel a dominance whenever i run mech decks so i would like to know the opinions of the rest of you cos for all i know i just suck with non mech decks
The state of Mechazor Decks
I’ve always had a special appeal towards mech decks (especially when you get more than 1 Mechaz0r), but they’ve been getting left behind as of late.
The support of different archetypes and the lack of direct mech support is what pulls me away from the copy&paste gameplay of Mechaz0r decks. Rest assured though, I return to them once in a while when I feel a little tuckered out (and I’m still waiting to get enough alter rex to really get something going)
Extremely powerful and extremely easy to play, making them very popular for noobs who want to climb high.
They tilt the hell out of me because a.) they cuck Abyssian pretty hard and b.) I can outplay my opponent every turn and still lose because they played four mechs in their first two turns.
I’d love to see something more interactive introduced to mech decks, like Mechazor only having the effects of the minions you played (ie no spell immunity if you don’t play Chassis). This can be taken further to introduce faction mechs and a lot of interesting things like that, ending up with a grow or deathwatch Mechazor or whatever.
TL;DR easily my least favorite decks in the game right now, bar none, due to the high lack of skill involved in playing it.
You mean Rexx or Zor?
Feelsbadman, but yeah i see what your saying, i like to play mainly abyss decks and versing a mech can be frustrating when they get the 4 mechs off the bat but i do feel that mech decks are more powerful than others especially with vanar. Your idea sounds awesome tho and would implement more variety with mech decks as apose to chuck all the standard mech cards in then fill it with the standard faction cards that you would use in every deck
Yeah the original thought isn’t mine, but I think it’d be really neat. I just need to tech in Crossbones again and I’ll be fine I don’t see mech getting changed any time soon
So my Mechazor thoughts
-
Yes Faction Mech would be good but it is a becareful what you wish for type thing like arcanyst and golems.
-
Mechazor needs to formed by the minions that was played. You play a bunch of helms you should get a weaker Mechazor. You play bunch of Chassis it should be scarier.Mechazor should have different stat and abilites based on what you played.
-
If Mechazor was formed by the Mech played then it needs to be able be summon more than once in a game
-
While annoying Mechazor is good for game by being a cheap competitive deck.
-
Crossbones needs to be 3/4,Crossbones should never feel like a waste to play in your deck.

Give alter rex better stats
I thought that mechazor was formed after playing one of each when I first started. Then I saw someone spamming helms and wings, and see them get it out really quick.
Honestly I think it should have the combined stats and abilities of all unique mech minions used to build it. Sure you could build it out of only helms, wings, and gun, but it would just be a 5/8 airdrop ranged. Then getting all 5 would make the total stats 13/15 (IIRC).
Although it is cool and makes sense to me, I’m not actually sure if that change would solve any issues.
Always loved building robots, have my Zirixz0r I update every season. It’s rarely disappointing, very fun, rare and even managed to make to S with it (first and last time).
getting more than 1 Mechaz0r! through khymera or alter rexx
you know what can do that (and sometimes better)?.. Calculator
Yeah it solves the biggest probelm it makes Mechs a strategic thing and not oh crap I loss because he drew 3 helms and 2 wings in his first two turns.Mechs are hated deck because alot wins come just sheer draw if it felt more strategic it would be fine.
It’s one of the few decks I hate to play against. The high rolls of 4 mechs in the first two turns is hard to counter, unless you are specifically teched against mechs. I think they are the strongest decks among the less skill-intensive decks of Duelyst, which makes them particularly annoying.
The core idea underlying mechs is extremely cool, but the implementation is poor.
Personally, I don’t mind mech decks. Its a archetype that can work across all factions and that makes it good for new players, because they can invest in mechs and use that investment for all factions. Before moving to other decks that require more thought/strategy. I don’t think I’ve ever found mech decks totally dominating when playing as them or against them.
The 2 ways that I’ve most countered mech decks with is Crossbones or using a dispel minion like Shroud. Crossbones can bring out an auto-concede as the opponent can’t recover from the lost of Mechaz0r as they don’t have a secondary wincon, or if they do then they often don’t recover from the loss of tempo. Using dispel is a bit harder as you need to be in the middle of the board ready to move and chain summon minions for when it gets dropped.
Mechazor alone can be quite slow after a certain point. Really if you aren’t ramping it out before 5 mana, it can be answered. By 7-9 mana you probably sitting on your best answer possible or your just proceeding to win as best you can.
I think That mechs strategy is fine. You need to centered around it your entire deck and even with That you need to be lucky in Order to summon mechazor in the early/midgame.
Mechs are not overpowered, but they feel pretty lame. I get what Counterplay was going for, having an underpowered deck that leads up to an insane win condition, but mechazor is just a bad way to do it.
I’ll compare it to Alabaster Titan, which I feel is Mechazor done right.
- Alabaster Titan encourages creative deck building to get around the restriction while Mechazor forces you to click 15 cards into your deck.
- Alabaster Titan is consistently available at 7 mana while Mechazor can come out as early as turn 2 or not at all depending on luck of the draw
- Alabaster Titan can facilitate a variety of game plans, from a slow deck that regains the board with Titan artifacts, to a faster deck that uses Titan to push its advantage, while Mech decks usually only aim to get Mech out and go face with it.
- Titan decks actually requires proper positioning to take advantage of the effect, while, more often than not, mechazor just ends up sitting in a corner going face.
- Titan’s effect can be countered by any deck with the right moves but Mechazor in the corned can only be touched by a few specific cards.
I hate this deck. This deck is far from being overpowered but when you loose against it, most of the time, you do not feel guilty of any misplay.
Your opponent just played enough mechs before you could find the lethal. When I play Vanar I keep a chromatic cold in this match-up for the big mech boss, but when i play Lyonar i feel bad.
Btw, is there any other options than chromatic cold ?
For Vanar, Enfeeble is the true Mech destroyer. In general, Sunset, Hallow Grovekeeper, Lightbender and Ephemeral Shroud are solid options, but the true mech tech is Crossbones.
