The Purification Crusade

I’ve been playing the game randomex recommended for a few days (mythgard) and it is great. It’s not exactly board based like Dooly, but it’s very fun and I also recommend it, it is currently in open beta so get going! There are no veterans yet (outside of the alpha testers) or people with a full collection making it feel a lot more fair to play the game.

Reward system is good, not as good as doolys but still sufficient and you can even earn most things (dailies) through playing the ai. There are multiple modes like 2v2, ranked play, casual play, gauntlet against the ai, gauntlet against real people, story and puzzle.

Just how big is this Mythguard game? It’s taking forever for me to download after launching it.

380 MB, but that’s the steam version don’t know if the other versions are bigger/smaller than that.

I was trying the android version. I eneded up downloading it at starbucks since their internet is so much faster than my house’s. I just hope it runs decently when my phone was hooked up to wifi. The tutorials I played so far were pretty fun, anyone who enjoys duelyst should give it a whirl.

I tried it and it seems like a mtg clone. Bland, except for the bratty girl in a post brexit setting.
Won’t pursue.

I like the mana system, but everything else about the game so far feels very much like a facebook game. Which is putting me off it a lot. But I should point out that I’ve only done the story, a few puzzles and open a few packs. Not done any of the pvp stuff, but not sure I’ll get that far.

@bepoest I get what you’re saying and I’m not too keen on the story mode so far either. I don’t play these sort of games for their story anyway, it’s just an element that I usually ignore. I’ve never actually read any of the Duelyst lore for example. I enjoyed the lanes, which makes it at least slightly different than any CCG that I know of.

@isbee my name is the same as here as well. Anyone who wants can add me.

@gsvalhalla I don’t really know what you mean by that first sentence since I don’t have a facebook account. Would you care to explain? Thanks.

I’ll try and think of a better way to describe it later (since it is like 5am). But basically, a lot of the assets, UI, levelling mechanics etc, are the same or very similar to games that I’ve played before on Facebook years ago. Its like profit maximising within the gaming industry, but with minimal thought about using/having quality throughout the game. For example the font for the text used in the story/tutorial when going through the story elements, it doesn’t like good, but not only that it looks like it was almost randomly placed on screen. Instead of purposely place. I could almost believe that the developers know that stuff also doesn’t look good as well, since all the screenshots/video of the game on steam for the store page basically avoids all of that. Its all either gameplay stuff or fullscreen card art, except for one screenshot which is the deck building page I believe. Another example would be the UI menu buttons, which look to me that they don’t belong or don’t look right for the game.

I’ve played other card games on Facebook before where the card art/gameplay/game design is decent, but everything else has almost been forgotten about and could be like default assets that have been used or looks out of place to the rest of the game. Which kinda gives it a cheap or crappy feel to the game, to an otherwise decent game.

Edit: To expand further on what I said, now its not 5am.

Or I was going to, but then the more I read it back what I was writing, the more it justs looks like me having a rant. Like the game having 3 different system loops including a like system but renamed as “Maat” in-game, to keep people playing the game, despite the fact that at least 2 of those systems don’t really make sense to have within the game.

Playing the game a bit more, I kinda agree with you that its a MTG clone, I like it because it doesn’t have the land system, but overall, the more I play, the more bored I get. It feels very grindy just trying to climb ladder or get cards. One of the missions/dailies to get money for cards is kill 88 minions which takes forever in this game because on average, about 5-6 minions die in a game including yours.

Lol. Well that’s unfortunate. I haven’t played it more than 30 minutes.

That few deaths per game?! (I still haven’t played it myself… Circumstances are annoying.)

One “MinMaxer” is a high-profile player - does anyone here know if it’s our guy?

@phoenixtoasches I’m not sure if the kill 88 minions is a daily. I’m seeing a daily of mine for killing 25, which is reasonable given that the reward is 500 coins whereas the other rewards are usually 1-3 hundred. There’s also XP which “levels” up your profile, and you get a pack every 3 levels. I’m sure you could do a draft run and get at least half of that 88 killing done.
