At what time mark can you usually bring out Mechaz0r?
Miguel's Abyss deck and discussion space
It’s not as big priority as Omega so some games I didn’t even need to complete the MechaZ0r, but most often I’d say around 5-7 mana depending on who goes first.
This is about what I thought. Thanks.
Played some games with @nh3maser’s take (I assume) on Devouring Fish. A Stunning Fish I’d say.
Decklist in case it wasn't posted here, I hope author doesn't mind
I’m surprised you can get something so close to Abyssian playstyle in Vanar. Funny enough though, with a bit more of control Unseven can be taken out entirely. But it would make the deck less thematic so I don’t want to do it.
Also, IDK if it’s just me, but it seems I draw Unseven less often with Vanar version than I did with Aby version.
Otherwise the only change I want to make is taking out Luminous, preferably for another 2 mana play. I almost never use it.
Glad you liked it! I don’t think it’s quite as strong as the Abyssian or Vetruvian versions, but it is fun, and Unseven is actually even more on theme here with Vanar’s matryoshka doll minions.
After having played it more, I agree with you about Luminous Charge: it’s a decent tool for stalling, but since the deck has no special synergy with it it can feel underwhelming. You could substitute a 2-mana removal spell like an Aspect or Chromatic Cold, but I think I would prefer something like Cryogenesis for a little more card advantage, or maybe Frostburn to shore up the weakness to swarm strategies.
& @nh3maser: Nice, a cool and clever take on the concept! Doesn’t Berserker compromise the Keeper pulls a bit though, since Warmaster can come out from it? Maybe it’s not a big issue though. I never got the hang of how to play Vanar Morghulis successfully, so it’s nice to see many players rocking it out there on the ladder
You’re right that Warmaster can pollute the Keeper pool, but I think Berserker is still the best option for that slot - there’s only so many big Dying Wish minions, and the neutral alternatives (Ironclad, Necroseer, Grimes) seem overall worse. Usually you can time things to avoid a Warmaster with the first Keeper at least. For me, it’s more annoying pulling Unseven with Keeper, which can at times be a total blank.
True, good points. I’ve found that it’s most often possible to always keep at least one extra dw minion in your hand for multiple Unsevens, but this decks’ playstyle is probably so different from the Abyss version that it might not be valid advice.
Necrobots (Z0rlithe, vol. 2)
My old dying wish mechs shell was badly in need of an update, and I found out it’s even more fun to play in its new version! The “sixlurks” shell gives the deck its typical feeling of inevitability which usually wrecks Wanderers and the like, while Nightmare Operant and Z0r also benefit from the ramp to bring out some sick combos with the deck’s secondary wincon Silvertooth. Grimes is a priority play around T3 (or T2 with some luck), and gives us even more chances of getting some sweet robo-bois out there to wreak havoc. And as always, don’t forget to bring out Chakram whenever you get the chance!
Some fun combos I got out of the deck (many more possible ofc):
- Project Omegas from Grimes for a surprise boi with pseudo-grow through other mechs
- Seismoid + 0-cost Operants
- The T2 Mechaz0rs followed by discounted Reapers and Grimeses
- Metaltooth + Chakram (aka “Mini-Makantor”)
And a couple hilarious non-mech ones:
- Beastclad Hunter from Reaper with Chakram out (get rekt, you puny things!)
- Ironcliffe Manument from Grimes + Chakram
Wr was 16-4 (80 %) in Gold.
Very clever - I wouldn’t have thought of this, Z0r is neatly tying this deck together.
Are you not missing card draw sometimes? I’m thinking real draw could help fetch Mechaz0rs.
Unrelated, here’s a wiki extract for the non-Mech players:
If Metaltooth is your only [[Mech]] on the board, summoning [[S.I.L.V.E.R.]] will make Metaltooth gain [[Rush]], but S.I.L.V.E.R. itself will not gain [[Rush]]. You have to play S.I.L.V.E.R. first before you play Metaltooth in order to give both minions Rush.
Thanks! I didn’t really have hand size problems, the curve is pretty midrangey and Desolator helps with the hand size as always. Nekomata should be kept in hand almost always though, and usually played when you can get him out for 3 mana or less. MechaZ0r is not the main aim of the deck, but rather a nice bonus you get every now and then
I had this happen to me the other day. I’ve never been saltier about a game loss.
Why Grimes over Vorpal Reaver? (Fun factor?)
Slight mech synergy I did get a couple Omegas and other nice mechs through it. And ofc the highrolls can be pretty busted.
SWAG, y’all
It’s a new season and you need to cruise the lower ladder IN STYLE.
You need something fresh, fun and quirky.
WANDERING SUICIDES
is what you need:
Simple concept: You mulligan and replace for one of three cards ASAP
- Lurking Fear >> Surf a Dying Wish wave
- Carrion Collector >> Surf a Dying Wish wave
- Darkfire Sacrifice >> Cheat Wanderer early
Maybe it’s gonna work! Maybe it’s gonna be unstoppable!
The top end is about instant damage if possible (3 rushers and 1 betrayal).
PS: Maehv is mad jealous and is wants her own Wanderer too, so post your own tweak if you want.
Yeah, it does work Miguel's Abyss deck and discussion space But I like your version too.
Definitely would be interesting if someone built a working Maehvderer deck. I remember trying some builds a long time ago but the results just were never too good.
Oh… I didn’t know you already had one!
Well yours seems less silly. It has “healing” and other grown-up stuff.
How does yours fare against the faster decks? Any tips on that front?
