Ideas on reinstating monthly cards

I have, like many other players, found myself caring less and less about ranking up each month; moreso now that I have a complete collection. Sure, there is the incentive to bank for the next expansion, but the lack of new monthly cards really took the drive to play down a few notches.

So my query be this: is there a way to bring back some variation of new monthly cards?

I have a couple ideas, and I’ll share one here.

What if the monthly cards were released in a separate craftable set and not part of the core? And it was only one card per month, where players would earn multiple copies based on divisions. S-Rank 3 copies, Diamond 2 copies plus 300 spirit, Gold 2 copies, Silver 1 copy plus 150 spirit, and Bronze would get a little extra spirit. I think it would give some players incentive to play every month and if they didn’t play for a few seasons, they wouldn’t be too far behind. New players would have the option to buy orbs, or craft the monthly cards, or both. This is just a basic outline, of course.

Haven’t made my mind up about rarities yet, but maybe someone else will have ideas.

What if the winner of monthly card creating contest was the card? Or a devs pick so it wouldn’t be op.

Skins or cromas could be cool.
I mean “You will win a x3 Skin Card if you reach S-Rank/Diamond/wathever it takes”. Since skin´s cards are implemented in the game (Saberspine’s Skin is the live example) and is just put a chroma into an existent card, so is not a exhaustive work for dev, art team and programers.
They can also put it those skins like crafteable stuff whit a prismatic card cost, so collectionist players will be interested on climb ladder to win all the possible copies whitout expending much spirit.

Just an idea of course.

Yeah, there are all kinds of ways that could be used to generate the monthly card.

I dig it.

What about people in gold?

They can play the newbie tournament. No more benefits required kappa.

They could add a monthly emote to the end of month rewards with the rarity determined by your rank. Or even an armory coupon for a free whatever of ____ rarity or below

I like the idea of one monthly card as it wouldn’t be as time consuming as adding three. It’s also cool to receive a brand new card/cards every month. Missing it a lil bit, pixel art first then revealing, Used to be looking forward to the end of the month much more before and I dont have full collection.

Lol, shit. I forgot about gold. Imma fix that.

I think the removal of monthly cards may have led to a loss of interest by some players with full collections or who like a little bit of meta shaking on a regular basis. Finding a nice way to reintroduce them without creating troubles to the game is an important goal to me.

The proposed idea of having a single card rather than four cards is certainly nice. An alternative could be that monthly cards are added to a separate set, which gets invalidated after a few months (say, 6). At the end of the 6 months, all players can get all the monthlies for free. To prevent abuses, one could make these cards not disenchantable. This way, highly competitive players could get the cards right here, right now, while more casual players could still get all the cards later.

I think monthly cards with discount crafting could work. Make them unavailable in packs, so you either get them from ladder or craft for cheaper. Like if you could craft a monthly card for the same amount of spirit you would get from disenchanting it.

Another idea I just had: award packs or cards of/from the next big set. Don’t let us open or use them until the set is released, but have them show up in our collection or under the orb opening screen. That builds hype for the next expansion and rewards people for playing every month.

Yeah new cards were a great way to have ppl grind to their highest rank. But they couldn’t keep that awesomeness up. Really it should rotate between certain skins emotes and keys. New cards should be done rarely or for special events.

Add more Faction Levels (push to 80 or 100) and give some monthly cards for free upon reaching specific Tiers ?

Sample for a single faction :

  • level 52 : get a common from the past monthlies, ex : Azure Herald
  • level 54 : get a rare from the past monthlies, ex : Zix
  • level 56 : get an epic from the past monthlies, ex : Ironclad
  • level 60 : get a legendary from the past monthlies, ex : Decimus

You can implement that for the 6 factions, it will lead to 24 different cards when you reach level 60 with all factions.

Or you can split it in two, with 3 factions bringing the 4 same cards and 3 other factions bringing 4 others monthly cards. Thus, if you raise all your factions to level 60, that’s only 8 different cards but you will have them as 3x.

And if you already have them, disenchant !

The problem with this is that it already takes hundreds of games to get to level 50, and expecting someone to do that and more with the factions they don’t really like to get cards they might need isn’t very realistic

Yeah, it’s not ideal but my point was to find a solution that matches :

  • no money (being $ or gold) required
  • all monthly cards available
  • for all new players
  • with still a gain for veterans

I second the notion for earning skins as monthly rewards. It would be a unique reward that could not be earned as easily elsewhere.

Otherwise, I could see promoting the newest say by picking a handful of unique cards from the new set and promising a copy of each as a monthly reward. This would give players the same kind of reward that used to exist but without putting strain on the creative team or marketing plans to make new cards each month.

I loved the monthly cards while they lasted, but from my understanding CPG had very valid reasons to discontinue them. Constantly coming up with four new cards every month, while not huge, puts a damper on other expansions and as such, newer sets needs that extra bit of creativity that might make release later than we’d want. Granted, only one card a month might help with that, but IMO it seems a little small and won’t be impactful unless its basically a staple. This also runs into the same issue the 4 cards had: they were forced to be neutrals. Unless CPG released 6+ cards, faction development would have to be reserved for actual sets, and I for one would prefer more faction cards to neutral ones.

In addition, it was inflating the ratio of common/rare/epic/legendary balance that was a key part of the core set, and the constant 4 cards a month in Core actually makes Core a better but orb-wise than Shim’zar, as the odds of getting a better card are higher thanks to the monthly cards. I like the idea of having a separate set to counteract this issue, but that has problems of its own: are they going to solely be craftable, with no way to open them in an orb? If they have their own orbs, how many do we need before we can avoid a scenario in which buying the orb guarantees you these cards?

TL;DR: I like the idea of better monthly rewards, but new cards seem more hurtful than helpful (to me). Those skins? Top notch idea. Cosmetics are a very nice way to avoid all those problems, with the caveat being it still might not be enough to motivate players.

Yeah, I like the idea of cosmetics. Maybe I should change the thread title to “Ideas for reinstating better monthly rewards.”

Lol, I think there are sooo many ways to do something about it.
