It would be great if this card healed the general for some amount when played so it isn’t a massive loss if it gets countered.

Too slow to see serious consistent play. 8 mana is when you’re looking to end the game. If your opponent can’t answer an 8 mana 6/6 provoke, then chances are they couldn’t answer anything at 7 mana or cheaper combos either.
Also, was expecting a more interesting animation. Kind of let down there.

But it’s 8 mana no immediate effect so it’s never going to see a single turn outside of silver, so I guess it’s fine.

I totally agree , this card is pretty boring in terms of design , the card has no dying wish nor opening gambit. So it dies to almost anything with no immediate value and it cost 8 mana which is huge , yes the card is probably busted if you managed to combine it with aegis barrier, but well…9mana.
The card seems shiny on the surface but in reality it is going to be a very disappointing answer or die type of card. No reason to see this card being played at a competitive level.
I am seeing people make a type of comment and it slight bothers me.This card is one of in Ziran (and probably even Argeon.)

And you need it to protect your life it is probably a bad card for that job.There is too much removal in the game and single provoke wont save you .But it is a Hail Mary if dont have answer you just won a game you shouldnt have won
If the board is even
It is a calculated risk to win the game right now,They are safer plays that would keep you in the game but if you make the correct read on their removal situation this play just ends the game. Silence is the most common removal in the game it leaves back a 6/6 body in alot of situations.
If your ahead
Then you probably just crush them,I fully expect to see defensive Zir into Excelsious play happen alot.As you are figuring out how you going to deal with Zir, Bam Oh crap have 10/10 in my face,And they are going probably drop another threat right after.
This card is Ziran’s “Obliterate” and obliterate is often just one of in Cass and is often not the card that kills you that honor goes to Spectral Rev but it is another threat to finish.Ziran didn’t get her Spectral Rev but now you have clock at 6 and 7,You have to find removal of the game might be over at 8.

The game is getting to point where some decks can drop threat after threat,Current Big Abyss builds is example of this,That is kinda Lyonar’s thing keep drop stuff in people face dare them remove it or get divine bonded. Excelsious isnt usable because the game has ton of removal? How much removal will you have in your hand at 8 and remember that Slo exists so going second a player can drop a four drop.

I realized it a few days ago…if i put many dispell worthy cards in my Obelyskdeck my Healers and Nimbuses have very good value…the same with this one…in apropiate deck it will be awesome…

8 is quite the expense, but he might be worth it. Imagine playing this with the aegis that prevents most forms of removal. This could be a cool one-off.
9 mana though. Most games will already be decided before then. However if Lyonar gets more ramp in addition to slo with this expansion, then this card might be viable as a bottom tier tech card.
It took me a while but I just realized, is Excelsious a woman? Some of the sprite features hints towards it being a woman.
