It won’t see play until Lavaslasher is there, but maybe after the rotation?
Also, it’s about time to remove the dust from my Unstable Leviathans and make Magmartillery great again! It’s so unfortunate this dies to Leviathan

This is absolutely OPed in the gauntlet. Fortunately, it probably won’t see to much ladder play since he is easier to remove there.
I was going to call it Momma.
They did it.
They gave a minion a true ranged + frenzy.
While it can easily be removed, it’s just another remove or die minion for Magmar. You can have only so much removal in your deck. The fact that it costs 5 and is vulnerable to rebuke helps however.
Not sure about the viability of this if it needs a turn to act, but it is very good on paper. Will definitely play magmar too when the expansion comes online
Guess what? The first posts after the expansion will be:
“Magmar is op”
“Why giving magmar big fucking guns?”
“Nerf these pedolizards”
“Rage rage rage”
Yes… it will be fum
This is an holy immulation generator for 5 mana with a decent body before the big mofos of magmar coming in, removing this will cost you the game due to lack of removel.
Just saying, you will cry over this card
This seems like the type of card that would have been really strong in full power finallty vaath but not great otherwise.
I will try to have my fun with this in a progenitor build. Probably not good enough, but hey.
The real beasts of magmar are still the ones that do something stupid directly when they come into play, Makantor, Lavaslasher, Progenitor, Ragebinder
or the ones that are cheap and a pain in the butt to get removed like Ragebinder Haruspex and Raptyr
Magmar hasn’t had much of a backline threat. Moloki will soon rotate out, but she was backline and had an immediate effect with the right synergy. Armada is a backline threat that also can do damage immediately, but suffers from bad aim and high mana cost. Quillbeast is one of the most powerful backline threats if you need help against swarm, but who plays that many x/1 or x/2 nowadays.
Mortar maw could fill a space that wasn’t occupied in Magmar until now. It can do reliable damage to one target. It s effect will let the opponent spread out similarily to Thunderhorns influence on the board. Please don’t give magmar a LitD sibling And it survives Plasma Storm. I think it will be useful for Vaath as he likes board control and is able to protect backline, but I am not so sure for the other Magmar generals.
While I agree with you that Magmar will be Strong after the next expansion, I don’t think it is necessary to be that biased against them since we don’t know if they will undeniably be top tier or not. It is quite possible other Factions will get much more broken stuff then Magmar does.
Let’s also try to face the fact that Mortar Maw is not the best card for the ladder, no immediate impact, dies to Mankantor, Lavaslasher, Rebuke, Holy Immolation, CoL and any cheap removal spell. Not to mention he has to compete with Lavaslasher for the 5 mana spot.
Ohh right lavaslasher is real lol.
Vet is OP as hell literally is only losing Falcius from its already strong removal package. Adds a really strong legendary and basically silence from players .
Mid Range Songhai is pretty strong adds will probably add 3 mana 4/5 to already strong competitive deck that isn’t losing any thing major and we haven’t even seen everything the expansion has and crickets from the community.
Titan Lyonar get a minion that gives it draw and extra bodies and it lose basically nothing in the rotation.More Silence from the community.
Any minion that Magmar gets OMG OMG,Magmar is too strong .I am not even pretending that Magmar isn’t getting good stuff or already has good stuff but it is hilarious reading these threads. Magmar isn’t even the best faction in the game right now plus they are about 4 or 5 other decks which are already good right now and is a card or two being from OP but keep pretending Magmar is the only threat to break the game.
I feed on your rage
My only complaint if I had one is it having ranged doesn’t sit right with me thematically, but it being too powerful certainly isn’t one of them. This is to Magmar what Scarab is to Vetruvian, a powerful backline threat with application in certain metas but that probably will see no real play.
Gauntlet tho
Ooh finally! Not the best 5 drops perhaps, but at least now Magmar has some ranged units that also can do aoe damage. I mean, they totally needed that!
@kirabi : the removal package that Magmar has is arguably quality/quantity wise the best or second best, and if we talk about an objectively OP faction I think Magmar has just more reason to be considered so, compared to any other faction.
Shouldn’t you post your opinion on other factions cards in the related threads instead of using it here to rush to Magmar’s defense ? Or maybe just reread this very thread and you’ll see people aren’t reacting like you pretend they do for every Magmar minion. Or even reread your own post because that last paragraph is an incoherent mess.
The problem is that each expansion Magmar gets something op:
-3 Mana thumping wave
-4 damage entropic gaze
-4/9 slasher
-3 Mana rebuke (and even at 4 it’s crazy)
-7 Mana saurian (same as rebuke)
And now haruspex that’s clearly too big for 4 mana. That’s the reasons why a lot of players wine about the faction, not because they straight up hated it but because cpg seems to not learn from their mistakes.
PS: I think mortar Mae is fine
