I mean sure, that’s what I’m saying, there’s no conclusive proof to say the game isn’t being developed anymore but there’s a few signs that suggest it might be winding down. Not enough to draw a certain conclusion either way, but I sympathize with people that are more pessimistic, just as I am happy to hear that people are still optimistic, we all love this game and want it to stick around after all.
Discussion Thread: Developers' Silence
There was tournament support, and there was also abysmal numbers for tournaments that made that support clearly not worth continuing. Tourneys had trouble breaking 20+ players, let alone the 32+ required for cash prizing.
I’m glad to see someone else in optimistic mode. The meta right now is really enjoyable, I simply play this game and have fun. Also I said previously we just have the unrotation with a big balance patch, expecting already new contents looks too much to me
Not that - two weeks ago when Storm incarnated, tournament support was one of the things he specifically mentioned as being on his agenda.
Lets stop beating stormshade over the head and accept that he may not have all the answers.
Its part of a cm’s job to make decisions about how to interact with the community in representation of both duelyst and bamco itself. It doesnt hurt to be proffessional in a situation like this.
Also, this is a cm. Just because hes the most active cpg representative with the community, doesnt mean he knows everything about whats going behind the scenes.
I know that I’m not the person to judge, given I have a history with BN and Stormshade, but as much as I dissapointed with what’s going on from BN, I’m also dissapointed with community’s behaviour. Stormshade had done nothing wrong. He’s irresponsible for devs and Thanny going away. And I’m quite sure, he has much more work to do now, when Thanny is gone.
Stormshade already mentioned he was doing lots of work behind the scenes. Now he has to be both himself and Thanny. Please, don’t be offended, guys.
Still, I find the lack of info disturbing, and this joke responce weird. But it’s no reason to be so agressive.
IIRC that mention was that tourney support would still occur in the form of in game prizing etc, and that TO’s needed to contact him directly to secure that stuff, such as ribbons, orbs, etc. Which to my knowledge has been happening
This anger is starting to remind me of the Destiny 1 forums.
I think we can break this down to a few logical categories to make this easier to digest:
Possible Scenarios
- Stormshade does not know and cannot act
- Stormshade does not know and chooses not to act
- Stormshade does know and cannot act
- Stormshade does know and chooses not to act
- Stormshade chooses to not know and cannot act
As Stormshade has said before, it is his responsibility to be a mouthpiece for the company. This means that while he is not consistently in possession of the facts or answers, he is always under scrutiny by the community AND his company. He needs to be certain he is keeping the image of the company/game in excellent condition. In every scenario but #4, Stormshade’s hands are tied.
This means that it would be irresponsible for him to speculate, and rather than give a proverbial senate hearing of ‘I do not know’ or ‘I do not recall’, he remains silent behind the curtain. This is especially important if it’s scenario #3 because he’d be dodging potential spoilers/msileading statements/outright lies.
Silence can be interpreted, and has its own set of risks, but the lack of definitive direction ensures that Stormshade’s professional integrity is preserved.
All of that said, a huge weakness in a number of corporate community managers is a perceived lack of humanity. This is exacerbated by long episodes of silence in times of tension.
I am not a professional in the sphere of community management, but if I could offer a suggestion, it would be to act like the hologram in iRobot. Be chatty, share any public information with great enthusiasm, and participate in forum conversations. If you are directly addressed with questions you cannot answer or topics you cannot broach, just respond ’ I’m sorry, my responses are limited. You must ask [different] questions.’
Do you not think you are all taking this a bit too far? o.O
no such thing as taking things too far
trying to stay slightly on topic here, announcement for announcing anouncements wen
GUYS!
Want to know why there is a developer’s silence? Want to know who you should actually blame, instead of Stormshade and the devs?
BANDAI NAMCO!!!
6: Stormshade is a figment of our imagination and is part of a shared mass delusion.
I actually don’t mind the silence all that much. It is what it is.
sigh, I don’t know why we’re having this discussion, I warned you all almost two weeks ago who stormshade really is, no one listened.
Now, all praise the new world order, all praise Master Storm, may he live forever in our hearts. Do not forget to offer your most special and frenzied of serpenti licks to Master Storm’s idol every 74 hours.
Right, that post was meant as a defense of the person.
All things considered, there’s nothing to be done, and he cannot be held responsible.
@phoenixtoasches
What does this even mean?
I feel like I’ve found a page torn from a diary without having picked up any of the associated pages on the way.
Oh, I see. I somehow missed this.
to be honest, Noa’s done more than what is asked from a CM. I honestly don’t think any game has solely managed a game’s image via a couple of dudes in the forums.
It does make sense to cut storm some slack though.
he did do that boss battle thing eventually. And hey, a lot of things have been ignored during Noa’s time (mobile support and several QoL changes that never ever happened), so not getting any news is not new to me.
Did you mean to reply to me?
Hey folks,
I’m sorry I’m not living up to your expectations right now. That being said, I don’t have any news I can share with you all right now regarding any of your major questions. I’m working on it, but I don’t have anything to respond with at this time. Thus, the apparent silence.
As has been mentioned, I’m doing two jobs right now, and some stuff is slipping. I’m working on getting things done to create more buffer space I can utilize here and in other places. But I do have deadlines to get stuff done that you all won’t necessarily see.
I’ll also point out that I do expect some basic rules to be followed. Among them, no swearing, no trolling, and other basic forum rules. If Thanny was lax on that in his time here, that’s my bad as I should have been more pro-active and asked him to take a more active stance in moderation.
The game may be PEGI 16, but it’s T for Teen in the U.S. and even with that rating there can be people younger than that playing and reading with adult consent.
If you disagree with that, well… I’m sorry to hear it. My stance remains the same, and I’m asking you nicely not to push this. The last thing I want is to have to start asking people to take breaks because they’re unhappy with the way I choose to moderate forums. But I will do so if I have to.
With that, as I literally have nothing else I can say on this topic, and it’s devolving rapidly, I’m going to close this thread, and politely ask that we move on to other conversations for a time while we wait for heads to cool.
Thanks,
Stormshade
