Abyssian Deck Tech: Retro Ramp Lilithe

@seraphicreaper
Deepfire Devourer is a lot more difficult to use than I originally thought. You have to consider how many minions you want to feed to this thing. You have to consider what removal will be most appropriate for it based on how buff it is, and if you’re ok with that removal being used on it (e.x., sparing a Wraithling to play around Natural Selection). In a sense, you get to choose how your opponent responds to this card.

Positioning can be tricky because you can only use adjacent minions for buffs, your BBS spawns randomly, and you still want to respect everything from Warbird to Makantor (though sometimes it’s big enough that you can play into those things if it’s worth making your opponent’s play more awkward).

I understand that you don’t want to invest too much into one unit and get punished (Sojourner is in the deck to help me in case this happens. I used to have Horror Burster instead for even more shenanigans). But removal is only as punishing as the investment you put into it. That’s what I love about Deepfire Devourer. YOU decide how threatening it is, and how much you want to invest into it.

@excogitator
It’s a shame that there aren’t too many Dying Wish minions for Mindlathe to snatch (curse you Desolator and your 1 health). But it seemed like a cute combo card for things like Deepfire Devourer, Ritual Banishing, and Darkfire Sacrifice.

I didn’t know you ran a similar deck. I think it’d be cool to see!

This was my little trick I’ve been wanting to use, but likewise don’t see much practicality in it due to removal. Azure Horn Shaman + Deepfire Devourer

P1T1 Azure would lead into a clean T2 with a DFD statline at 6/10 (+2/+2 for DFD’s effect, 0/+4 for Azure), a massive turn 2 body. With other high attack stat cards like Razorcrag, these would be huge threats, extra when corporeal cadence is around the corner.

I initially had this idea with frostborn naga since it’d just be Azure attack, summon frostborn which would be a 3/7 body.

The issue I feel with, at least my combo, is the dependency on one card to really pose that danger that i’d like. Nekomata could increase this likelihood, but so much reliance into one card makes it feel less satisfying than the meme-hopes.

Something like T1 Azure, T2 Ritual + Mantella may be more feasible and stand on it’s own maybe, as you’ll gain an extra card out of it as well as produce a 4/6

The thing about DFD is that it’s not really a 4 mana minion, but more of an investment of 4 + the cost of all sacrificed minions.

(My Azure dreams may suit lyonar more, but with ritual and DFD, i’ve wanted this deck to work at some consistent level for awhile now.)

Azure Horn Shaman looks like fun! I could try it out and see how it goes. It’s a decent stand alone body, and the Deepfire Devourer combo could be interesting. Celebrant hasn’t been as consistent as I was hoping, so I’ll swap the two minions for now.

The original deck is currently 9-2 in mid/upper Diamond for what it’s worth, so I don’t think this meme needs to be just a dream. Though I’m afraid I don’t know how to make Corpreal Cadence work atm.

That’ll be an experiment for another day!

Deepfire Provides an exelent way to self proc a bunch for grimwar, we sport two cycles and and 8 dying wish minons to be used with Nekoma. Thanks To nekoma/desolator we sport superb card advantage despite the low curve and darkfire. Azure is a great two drop that is very strong with swarm or of course the turn two deepfire.

We can of course furosa/crypto into an early swarm, and or cache in on early swarm with Devour or use Devour to manually proc grimwar. Darkfire adds another fun way to accelerate the deck and proc Azure who is just fun with swarm anyways. Nekoma adds extra consistency to the combos.

This has some serious potential! Wish I had thought of the base, but I think I put all the parts together in a way that will work, going to go give it a whirl.

I really want to fit mindlathe here as I just love the card, but its so awkward for this meta as there are so few things to use it on and it would cut into the valuable tech the deck has, as you really need healing vs aggro cass, and aoe vs walls/flying.

Mindlathe definitely has its disadvantages, mainly against Burn Cass and walls. I just like that it helps you keep tempo if you start falling behind since Abyssian has difficulty getting the board back once your opponent takes it.

But perhaps your variation, with its lower curve, won’t have as much of an issue preserving the board, unlike mine which sports more lategame cards, and may need the tempo swings more.

No Revs is unfortunate, but I guess it’s hard to fit everything you want into the deck.

Yea its pretty hard to argue with the brute power of the Phantasm/Tiger/Rev package, but its awfully nice to get away from it sometimes to and there just is not room for it here. I took my bottomless abyss from my master thread up to S rank #2 and won a tourny with it which is a similar principal to your deck. I just figured if we are going to try and make deepfire work may as well design around him a bit more.

I am really loving my version of the deck. I have had some epic games with it, this one in particular was tons of fun, despite getting hard countered a couple times it still pulled through:

I have named my version Inferno because of Deepfire and Darkfire, and also a shout out to Dantes Inferno, as this deck very much has a fires of hell subtheme.

Don’t have the cards to play it, so it’s neat seeing the archetype playing out. Fun replay.

Extra: Since you have a lot of the cards, I’ve been curious if Calculator would work with Ghoulie in hand; if you or anyone else knows it.

Ah yea, sol gives ghoulie rush, and ghoulie boosts calculator, just might have something on our hands here.

Thunderhorn/rev is the only reason this isnt good!

Could try Songhai + Crimson Coil or a more standard Starhorn deck as well.

Crafted and tested, Ghoulie does indeed add stats to calc, and it gains rush from sol!

I picked vet since it wants to run pax/rae anyways for a fault deck, so figured if I am ever going to shove more pets in somewhere may as well start with a fairly competitive deck that already used them.

This will be the first deck to be featured on my new show: decks that lose horribly to meta cards.

Well I am going to go give it a whirl.

Episode 2 will be: Artifact Sajj vs EMP!

Which one of the units named EMPwill prevail?!

Sadly between Revenant and Thunderhorn its just to risky to play. Its pretty strong baring its hard counters which are quite common.

does feralu give buffs to minions in hand?

No he doesn’t, his buff only affects tribal minions on the field.

thats terrible… well it would have made calculator a lot more viable.

Sorry to keep derailing your thread here, let’s move discussion of Vets Pets to my master thread, I posted my new version of the deck over there.

I really just don’t understand the Skorn. In Lilithe. So much antisynergy here. And besides that, why not use things like Cryptographer to get more little dudes to sacrifice to Deepfrier, and throw in a DFC for even more combo potential? Idk it’s kinda weird
