I bump from the shadows as I once again summon the gates of Card Battle Thursday!
The Scientist was one vote further than Qtiepie which was in turn a vote higher than Wind Stopper. For the first time in a while we have quite a tight poll going on! And so through a battle of fame and usefulness The Scientist gained the title of Champion in the useless bracket. At least he had a taste of victory.
This time round I decided to make a tribute to ages past, of the Grandmasters who once changed the dynamics of Duelyst with their expansion. You gotta admit, they were meta-defining, deck-creating cards that twisted the balance in favour of wits and wisdom in countering the enemy rather than the more passive board progression before that. Sadly Duelyst in some ways have returned to its past, unrefined form.
So vote away! Bring glory to the Grandmaster you think deserves the most credit! May these relics of another age continue to shine in Gauntlet!

variax sometimes can be pretty strong in gauntlet, especially when you have enough support in a maehv deck haha

I assumed we were voting on them in the context of Gauntlet picks, seeing as this is the Gauntlet thread 
All of the Grandmasters are playable in Gauntlet (unlike Ranked 
), but most of them aren’t especially high picks among the other legendaries. 7+ mana is still a lot even in Gauntlet, and the removal in Duelyst is very strong so you can’t count on them sticking around.
I think Zendo is still the best simply because he’s the cheapest and his effect is guaranteed to go off at least once, which is often enough to seal the game if you’re ahead or steal it if you’re behind. Vairax is also pretty good because she’s so big on her own while also providing you with undispellable inevitability, and Z’ir is functional as a weird emergency reset button. For all the others, while they will usually win you the game if you’re ahead and break open parity situations, I find that all too often dropping one (as your only play for the turn, mind you) while you’re behind ends up with the opponent either killing it or killing you before you get a chance to do anything.

I just wanted to share my latest decklist from the run I started today:
The power level is decent but not overwhelming, but what’s special is getting 5 legendaries, a personal high-water mark. This was achieved mostly via picking 3 Fatesealers (represented by Deepfire Devourer in the decklist image since Bagoum never added the Gauntlet-only cards to their database). I’m really hoping that in some game I get to curve Reaver into Zurael, or OTK someone with Chakram into Revenant.

The Scientist was the best of a bad set of epics (alternatives were Abhorrent Unbirth and Moebius). I’m actually not too down on him, though: while he’s only really a good card for the generals whose BBS are used on friendly minions (Argeon, Zir’an, and Kaleos), his stats aren’t too bad on their own (being essentially those of a good 5 drop), and Cassyva at least gives me the option to ping my own minions for emergency card draw. Plus, him together with Desolator gives me the grindiest lategame imaginable.
Edit: forgot to include Maehv in that list of generals, although with her it’s a lot more awkward due to the downsides of her BBS.
